True, but his argument was the schedules are terribly inefficient. They aren't great but they are getting better and it's still possible to fly your ass off if you want to. Like I did. 900 hours.
But yes, at any airline, your first year will have months of training, in which you won't be flying much. I doubt reserve will be that long for new hires

17 hr 4 day trip averages are inefficient trips. We use to have 18 hr three day trips. And 20+ hour four day trip averages.

We are both outliers. I have a fantastic QOL and good pay. Tomorrow I'm going to wake up on reserve and not even think twice about getting a phone call from CS. Why are we talking about us though? We are talking about new hires.

Lol. I don't even think we are talking about the same thing. I'm talking about a NH trying to get to 1000/2500 hours. With 103 lines the company has 70 reserve pilots. Next month it gets better with 105 lines and 40-50 reserve pilots. (I can't remember the exact number.) We usually have 50-60 reserve pilots to cover 100 lines.
Simply put -- A NH not wanting to be based in LGA on the 145 will have longer reserve times and inefficient junior lines which could cause him/ her to not get 1000 hrs before he/she could hold a CA slot.

OK OK OK. So an average line flies 80/month and 960 per year just doing average flying yet you worked your ass off and only flew 900 hours...
