Default XJT vs. SKW attrition rates...

Does anyone have a logical explanation as to why XJT says it's losing 30+ guys a month to CAL,SWA,ect while SkyWest is "only" losing 20 a month???

Although it is known that the XJT contract is better than SKW (although not by that much), they have 50% higher attrition. Seems weird...

The only logical explanation that I can come up with is that since CAL is has been hiring a lot, it makes a lot more sense for XJT'ers to jump ships since most of them already live at a CAL hub or are used to the commute. Therefore they would have an easier transition (no need to relocate/sell house/move the family/ect). On the other hand, SKW has more diverse domiciles, some of which are DAL/UAL hubs and since neither of these 2 legacies have been hiring, many CA prefer to stay at SKW.

Even considering the above factors, it's hard to explain this large difference in attrition... ANY IDEAS???

mainly because CAL Hiring is based heavily upon referrals & recommendations and over the years XJT guys have gone to CAL. There are a large number of ex-XJT guys over at CAL, they still have a lot of friends that are at Express, that have "connections" over at CAL thats the main reason.

In the CAL newhire class breakdowns it looks like about 50% of the newhires are XJT folks. So that would explain the higher attrition.

Default Domiciles

The real reason is domiciles. XJT guys can go to CAL and not move. They have the same domiciles so it is a no brainer. Keep your house/schools ect and make more money at a major. Skywest is totally different. Senior captains in places like PSP/PDX/SAN/SMF/MRY or even FAT will never leave because they want to be based at home. Many others stay on just hoping to move into a captain slot in one of these domiciles. Many Skywest pilots have been hired at CAL and other majors but the total numbers will never be as high because the opportunity to live in a certain places and be based there is only available at Skywest.
