Comair Reserve Time?
How long has anyone been on reserve at Comair? I think the website says 10-14 months, how accurate is that? Also, how is life on reserve compared to some other airlines?
I have heard anywhere from 3 months in JFK to close to (FOREVER) years at MCO
what about at CVG, that is where I'd like to end up eventually, how hard is it to get CVG?
9-12 months but you will start in JFK for a few months at least
3 months at JFK? Is that true?
i was on reserve for three weeks at jfk before I had a line. And the reserve was not bad. I had 3-4 days trips all the time and never had to wait for a call.
3 weeks? what was your hire date?
in november, also reserve is not too bad at JFK. Yes you need a crash pad but once you learn how to get around it is not bad at all. I think I actually stayed at the crashpad 5 nights last month.
If reserve is that short at the JFK base, how long of a wait is it for upgrades? I heard Comair requires you to have 3,000 hours before you can upgrade.

Upgrades in JFK actually went about 300 numbers senior to me, So i think it is around 4 to 4.5 years. 3000tt, 1000ME, 500hrs at Comair. |
PROJECTED MAX/MIN NUMBER OF POSITIONS
FOs JFK Currenty 110 Min 186 Max 201 Lots of growth at JFK. |
Growth? or just transfering of flying from CVG to JFK?
No, it is growth. We just received a company email that actually stated that. I have seen new hires get awarded CVG within 4 months of training. I think the reserve thing has been answered. It will be very short in JFK. The reserve guys and gals in MCO do not get called very often. We are running new hire classes every Monday with 15 people per class, so you would have a large number of people under you before you even complete your check ride.
3000 hours is the time for captain. It is going to be just about the same everwhere on an RJ. This is not a company set time at any company. It is demanded by the insurance companies. |
Actually, per an email from Jim Murray, the extra positions in JFK are to cover the flying that is already there. They are just moving the flight hours out of the CVG bid packet to the JFK bid packet.

POSITIONS CURRENTLY FILLED BY ACTIVE PILOTS
FOs CVG Currenty 103 CRJ700, 349 CRJ200 FOs CVG PROJECTED MAX/MIN NUMBER OF POSITIONS CRJ700 Min 95 Max 103 CRJ200 Min 415 Max 448 Thats what CVG is at. |
most of the guys in my class and the class behind me were awarded CVG within one month. And as of the third we were awarded the 700 due to a vacancy bid. Not sure when training will start for the 700 but it should be around the middle of summer. I'm not too worried about upgrade time, I want a couple years of flying the CRJ under my belt before I get upgraded.
I will say this though, get in now while the getting in is good. It is not only how far you are away from the top but most importanly how far you are away from the bottom. |
