The Scottsdale FSDO (where I am located right now) charges $700 for all checkrides other than CFI Initial, and $1000 for the Initial ride.

Just go look at the thousands of new ATPs issued since the rule. More than what the airlines have hired in the same amount of time.

I'm not sure why people deny that there is NOT a pilot shortage. If you pay them enough, they will come.

Yup. My CFI was $1000. My others were $400-$500.

It's mind boggling how much things have changed. I paid $50 for my private check ride and $0 for my CFI ride through my local FSDO. Granted, it was a few years ago, but that's a crazy escalation in costs.

You say "most of those guys"...

Most?

What's your source?

There are definitely areas where this is the case. In 2010 in Ft Lauderdale i paid $1000 cash for CFI initial. Highway robbery.... And $600 a piece for CFI addons. There was most definitely collusion between the DPEs..

Instructing in the midwest the going rates were more reasonable $350-500... maybe $600 for CFI initial... but the FSDO rarely let anyone go to a DPE.

Recently i had a pilot in the jump that was a DPE in Vegas, and he said he charged between $1000-1200 per ride .
