Comair New Hire

Hello Everyone,

I just accepted a job offer to work for Comair. I have about 3 weeks before training starts and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to be more prepared.

Are there any new hire gouges or study guides that I can use to prepare for call outs and flows?

Thanks everyone.

Hello Chow,

Good job!,

when did you attend the interview?

If you have no familiarity with turbine airplanes or turbine engines, get the Turbine Pilot's Flight Manual and read it before you arrive (you'll be too busy once you get there)..

I interviewed a couple weeks ago.

Hi,

I'm going to be ready to submit my applications in about a month and I've been thinking about adding Comair to my list. A few questions come to mind:

- Is Comair hiring into all of their domiciles at the moment?
- Can a new-hire request (successfully) a particular domicile?
- Any idea of what upgrade times are currently?

Regards,
Ken

Currently Comair is hiring into JFK only. You can bid out while still in training. Many people have done this and have been awarded either CVG or GSO while still in training. You still start out in JFK, at least for a couple of months. MCO is senior. I believe upgrade time is around 5 years.

Thanks for the info. I live in the Orlando area and can't move for the next few years (depressed real estate market, mortgage prepayment penalties, etc.), so it looks like I'll be commuting. There are shorter upgrade times to be found out there, so, with MCO senior at Comair, I'll plan to look elsewhere.

Mco

Some new guys have been placed in MCO, not many but the reserve time is much longer, like 2 years. Things changes really fast and there must be some of the senior F/Os in MCO that are being offered Captain positions in other places. That plus the fact that some pilots even from MCO leave for other jobs at other companies must give opportunities for new pilots to be placed there as reserves. The one already at MCO gets the line positions and then a new reserve is needed. I believe it must be easier for a new hire to get to MCO as reserve than a F/O already flying the line in some other base. I like what I have seen of the company and even if MCO would be best for me (being from Miami) I would be willing to work in any other base a few years for a position with Comair.

Fair enough. I'll keep an open mind about Comair. Thanks for the additional information. :-)
