I was in a very similar situation not very long ago. The same day i got a training date at Eagle i was offered an interview at XJT. Long story short, I chose Eagle for a couple reasons.
1) They have a base in my home town and I will be based there in beginning of summer.
2) They are a very stable company and still likely to be around tomorrow (at least)
3) at the time, i dont think XJT had plans for their 69 aircraft that were down.
4) With all the hiring that has been going on at XJT and all the movement (recall, attrition, etc) at Eagle i felt that upgrade times may narrow between the two companies.
That extra time to upgrade is a small price to pay to live in your home town and be near family.

Look at the current situations at each place, decide what is important to you, and go with the one that best fits your needs. Right now, i personally dont think you can go wrong with either company, especially now that XJT has flying for all their planes. Good luck with that all you XJT'ers!!

Exx

I don't think that anybody would argue with the advice of going to where you can upgrade the fastest, get the PIC, and move on. Excluding going to GOjets of course. If the upgrade slowed down to 6-7 years at XJET but was still short at MESA, what would you do if you were just getting into this industry? I'm not saying that MESA is a good place, it sucks. I have friends there, one is getting bent over and JA'd as I type this out.

Funny, pre 9/11 with all the hiring going on, nobody would question going to a carrier that had a quick upgrade but sucked total balls. As long as the hiring is going on, who cares? You are only there to get the PIC and get out. I know a lot of guys that went to Great Lakes pre 9/11 and upgraded fast and got out. Many have done well for themselves. Now, most people won't touch the place with a 10 foot pole.

Just my 2 cents. After a down grade, furlough, 60% pay cut, taxes, ALPA dues, medical, dental, uniform deduction, and 401K, it's only worth about .6 cents. So take it for what it's worth.

oh trust me, it does matter to me, but where you work matters too....

according to you we go where we get PIC fastest

I just get tired of all these 'get there fast' posts... whether it be PFJ, or get PIC fastest... have a little dignity in yourself, if upgrade time at say pinnacle is a year but american eagle is 3, I'd stick with AE just because they are more reputable... but again, thats me, everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it :)

However outside of this comparison go for the one you think best suits your lifestyle rather than a quick upgrade. I've been away from my family and friends for a year and a half working out in the middle of nowhere because it was a great opportunity but after this I'm prettymuch burnt out. Doing whatever it takes to get in that left seat isn't everythign for me. I don't mind spending a little extra time if it's a good work environment and lets me be with family and friends. I went from costal waters to the texas/mexican desert. It doesn't get much worse than that. My dues are in!

We the only thing AE can offer me is a little more stability. Who's knows if this whole new airline is really going to work out for them. That is their one huge plus. The big plus for XJet is most likely I will be able to upgrade faster there. Really I don't think I could go wrong with either company right now, just wanted to see if anyone had addiational imput.

PS- This won't be my first 121 job, I finished my IOE with Trans States and then quit. So I would appreicate working for a GOOD airline (either AE or XJet).

Sorry for the ASSumption on my part that this would be your first 121 gig. The question sounded like somebody who wasn't to sure. Sorry, my fault. If you want to come to Express, you won't be sorry as far as how you are treated. I came from another 121 place as well. The contract is good and has a lot nice things in it. If the future wasn't so up in the air, it would be a no brainer to go to XJET. I've known guys from Eagle in my various crashpads, none of them were happy.

Hey no problem, I really don't know which one is better. I guess I probably can't go wrong with either one. I still have to interview at Express Jet and get the job.

If you have prior 121, I don't think getting the job at XJET will be an issue. If the upgrade time and equipment type isn't important, I guess it just depends on where you want to live/commute to.

Just a couple things about XJET. As much being on resevere stinks, I didn't think my stint was THAT bad. We now have an agressive pickup window for trips. I know AE has something similar, but I belive that ours has better language. Probably due more to the fact that it was recently negotiated. Also, is AE's min days off 10? XJET is 11 in a 30 day bid period, 12 in a 31 day bid period.

If you want any more specifics, let me know.

11 days off minimum at AE. Picking up OT is easy, you see something in the system and put in the request for it.
