Where will I have to live?

I'm planning on getting a regional job in a couple of years and I am trying to figure out where I will be able to live. Is it more or less likely that I will be able to live in a different state than which I am based? How hard is it / how long does it take before I would be able to transfer to a different base? Do any regionals give you a choice for base?

I am concerned about where I live mainly because my dad owns a nursery business and I would like to work for him during my time off. Is this a far fetched goal?

If you tell us where you live or where your father's nursery is located, maybe we can be more helpful.

All of these questions really depend on the regional that your working for. Can you give us some ideas of companies you've been looking at?...so that we can give ya a better idea?

Actually, nevermind....just re-read your post and your talking about a couple years. Who knows what companies will be around then =)

Basically, you can live somewhere other than your base / domicile, and commute to work. You could also live at your base / domicile, and commute home to help your dad out.

Transferring bases really depends on the company you work for. But yes, its definitely doable.

I live in northwest Ohio about 1 1/4 hrs north of Dayton, Oh.

I have thought about commuting home to help my dad. However, I will have a beautiful young lady waiting for me at home and I doubt she will be thrilled about the idea of me leaving her again to help dad.

Commuting is always a viable, yet PAIN IN THE rear, option. With seniority, you can change bases at the airlines... Note: It is always helpful to live near a busy airport like Atlanta or Huston or New York or DC or something....

Well Ill be as nice as I can here, but come on.................... All of these questions depend on things that change so quickly, Its pointless to even consider anything, I would just worry about Soloing for now ;)

How far are you from Cleveland? Expressjet has a base there, and you could be based there once you were senior enough. Anyone have info how long it would take to hold CLE?
