Question for the XJT folks...
 
Was hoping for some insight from the XJT ranks...

I know you all have full trip/line guarantee, but I was curious if you had duty rigs there as well? For instance, let's say you initially had a scheduled 5:23 duty day (worth, let's say, 2:40 credit). If that duty day extends (due to whatever...maintenence, ATC, weather) to something like 14 hours, do you all get paid over the 2:40 initial credit due to your duty time being extended?

Also, do you all have minimum day pay? (or whatever it would be called). For example, say your whole day is cancelled and you're stuck in an outstation...I know you would be protected for the credit of that particular day, but do you get a minimum daily credit based on if you fly or not? (such as if the credit that day was only for 1:13).

And the last one...do new hires have much of a chance getting IAH or SAT right out of training? Or would reserve in EWR be most likely?

Thanks for your help! (I've been searching for a copy of your contract online to answer some of these questions, but to no avail)

Sorry for the elementary questions...remember, I work for (gulp!) Mesa, so I have no clue as to pay other than segment time, or "per diem or better" as we call it!

No, we don't have duty rigs. In your example, you would get paid the 2:40 or actual block, whichever is greater.

Down load the contract and compare for yourself what the rules are at XJT and other airlines. Note the Dates and LOA's (letters of agreement) at the end of each contract. As a collective bargaining agreement matures between an airline and its pilots there are many amendments, these come in the form of an LOA. Most contracts have many LOA's by the time it becomes amendable. Contracts and an Airline do not expire, they become amendable, because we are all governed by the RLA (railway labor act). Therefore at the end of a 4 year contract the company and pilot group sit down and sign another one after negotiating the new terms. However, until those terms are signed the rules of the current contract remain. Therefore if benefits the company to drag out contracts talks if the rates are well below average or if the company is doing much better than when the initial contract was sign, allowing for outdated pay and work rules to remain in effect for as long as possible. To combat this tactic many pilot groups work a retro deal into a new contract if the negotiations have taken a long period of time, this somewhat offsets the company’s benefit of delaying talks. I was hired in the Jan 29th class and we won't know what our
base assignments are until March 26th.

EWR had been junior, but it sounds like ONT, LAX, and SAT are where all the new guys will end up being based.

Do you get paid for training at Express Jet, where is the training, how long is it, and do they train to proficiency, or, like Eagle, is it three strikes your out?

Yes, just under $1500 dollars. Get the check usually the second week of training.

IAH for ground, and sim if it's available. Otherwise go to Hobbby. They have guys go to other locations as well. FLL, DFW, just depends.

When I went through, it was about 5 weeks from day 1 to PC, then about 2 weeks for IOE. Started on the minimum garauntee after the PC. I've heard there can be a wait now, back log and a lack of check airman.

No on the AQP/train to proficiency thing. The training is good (I've heard AE's is as well) and you should be ready. If you are not coming along, you can ATR (additional training required) to catch up. However, the PC is conventional pass/fail. No mulligans like on an AQP ride with the MV/loft combo.
