What I meant by realistic is having a high degree of comfort in 121 ops. 1000 is not quite there yet.

Although I Personally upgraded with 1000, it can depend, some guys are just ready. Ask questions, pay attention, you’ll can be there. For a lot of guys, 1000 isn’t half of what they need

Absolutely some can be ready, but many (most?) aren't quite there yet.

The main thing is to have enough perspective on airline ops to know when you need to pull out all stops, declare, divert, even land on I-405.

A new PIC will naturally be reluctant to take drastic (or even abnormal) action. With enough perspective and experience, you'll be confidant in your knowledge that the time has arrived, and you can get on with what has to be done without second guessing yourself.

'Cuz we all know that particular turd will hit the fan on the first trip off IOE... BTDT.

Cat 2 approaches? I haven't done one since the sim last year but I'm pretty sure our cat 2 procedure require the marker beacon to be on.

This whole approach is all well and good, but I personally have one condition though. They need to be able to do their job first. No sense in letting an FO take on higher challenges until they have a solid grasp of their own duties and tasks.

It can be frustrating to see an FO trying to do all "my" stuff when they cannot or will not do their own duties. Dont get me wrong, FO wants to do everything and double check the important stuff- Great! But they gotta have the goods to back it up or else the whole thing goes to crap

Oh I agree completely. I'll do my stuff, you do your stuff unless we agreed upon something different for some sort of reason. Otherwise let me worry about my duties and the fo can worry about theirs.

I'm talking more about the small stuff. Approaching the gate they don't need to ask me to start the APU. Did I forget to turn the seat belt sign off? "hey poser, mind if I let them up?" Do it! Switch not in the right position for normal flight? Fix it. Just let me know... That's all I ask.
