Hi guys and gals
a couple of questions for you. what is the typical duty day/ schedule like? how about QOL their? When are DOMS assigned? where do the newbies tend to end up. Thanks alot:) |
Well, as a newbie, I can't really give you a good day in the life feel, as I'm still figuring it out myself. However, as to when DOM's are assigned, you know your plane and certificate when you're hired, but don't find out your domicile until you're almost finished with sim.
There's no pattern where newbies end up, it just depends on the month and is spread out pretty much over all the bases, except for LGA which takes about a year to hold. |

Thanks alot:) QOL = my only complaint is as stated above about commuting on off days. DOMs = You may get lucky and get assigned during systems, but if is usually during the sim training. |
is that 7 or 8hrs duty or block time? cause 7hrs on duty seems kind of light for an airline operation. i thought >12hrs was typical of duty time in a standard day if you're flying 3 or more legs

You have to understand, we do have trips that are 4 days and most of the time 2 of the days have only 2 to 4 legs on them. Don't get me wrong, you will do 12 duty days. All time that I speak of on this thread are duty time, not block.

Duty day depends on the base. I can tell you that we do a lot of starting early and finishing late on trips. Make commuting a *****, cause you usually have to do it on your day off. On average, a 3 or 4 day trip, 7 to 8 hours duty. Ususally one of the days is a big duty day of 12 to 14 hours.

I am wondering when they make you sign the training bond contract, and when the 2 years start counting down (hire date, SIC checkride, linetraining checkride)?
Is the bond prorated? What about vacation time first year / second year? Thanks for any input |

The training contract does not go into effect until you complete IOE.

A week's worth of vacation is 16 or 18 PDO's (I'd have to look again since I haven't tried to take vacation yet either). Second year it's like 4.33 hours a month or something like that. As far as pay, take home per month for me is between $2200-2000 with per diem, $1700-$1500 without it. I deduct medical and 10% to the 401K but I don't have to pay state taxes, so that helps me out. |
