They know you are an FO. Its a sign of respect. I'm from South America and growing up we were taught to call anyone who is a professional by the highest title possible..I always thought that it was pretty funky.. If you listen colse enough you will also hear Lawyers be called "Licensiado" and the funniest one is that a ton of people fall under the "doctor" umbrella...
