Surely you’re not paying for all those hours? You can still Flight instruct at 250 hours can’t you?

It can be done but it's a fine line...

Too much cash/assets on hand and the law won't let you off the hook on obligations. I think it's also easier for creditors to force liquidation to cash out.

In the past you could file even if you were solvent but trending to losing money. Now you have to be in dire straits, and in danger of liquidation.

Airlines have another hurdle... If you're really broke the FAA can revoke your cert on the premise that you can't afford mx, safety expenses.

Best of luck to you , however I would state that getting more hours and experience is hardly a waste.

And the 21 year old is about to go through his very first cloud shooting an approach to minimums because the pilot mill he instructed at didn't allow flying in IMC. Hope the autopilot isn't deferred!

But really, it blows my mind how many of our peers are also advocating for lower minimums. They either don't like money or they feel like the mighty regional jet will solve all their life problems because they won't have to instruct anymore. Even instructing is lucrative now thanks to the 1,500 hour rule.
