Colgan mins lowered again !!

According to new ad on climbto350 - Colgan mins are now 500/80

BoilerUP 04-02-2007 06:18 AM

That's higher than a few others that come to mind...

Cubdriver 04-02-2007 06:51 AM

Do you know if it is ok with them if any of the multi is safety-pilot time as opposed to hands on time from flying for time-building? I am a bit shy on multi-time, what do they accept.

I'm sure if you apply, they will let you know. As many have said, it never hurts to apply.

Thats a BULL**** flag right there pal................I wouldnt do it. That Safety Pilot is such BS come on.............

PS Colgan keeps lowering there minimums because its not a good place to work, and the attrition is mostly do to FO's making lateral moves not because CA's are moving on to bigger and better things.................unless of course you consider Kalitta and North American better things..................

Well, they are Bigger and Better if you compare them to Colgan....so I guess it depends on what you are comparing them too :D

I would have to agree here.......logging SP time really dosn't count for much. I mean what did you really do on that flight?.....look for traffic?

I agree too. However, most people have a little SP time in their books at some point or another, but don't point it out that way. I mean honestly most flight instructor have very little stick time but lets not point that out to the airlines ...or insurance companies :D

shanejj 04-02-2007 09:09 AM

Some ppl love the company....
Is it really a bad company...or did they just rape Saab?

Squawk_5543 04-02-2007 09:14 AM

Hey I used to want to work for Mesa....until I joined APC ;)

I know of a lot of people who have ether split time as safety pilot or taken turns logging instrument instruction (which you can do with out an MEI) to get up to 50 multi. The ones who have applied at airlines have gotten hired and have not had any trouble with it.

Wedge Buster 04-02-2007 09:25 AM

They where Hired at Piedmont, Pinnacle, ASA, and Big Sky.

The only way to find out the real truth about Colgan or any other airline is interview and check them out for yourself. It should only take you two seconds to figure out after reading the posts on this site that most people are talking out of their A** and act like they know what life is like at every single regional out there. What may be for one person may not be for another. :) Good Luck!

Cubdriver 04-02-2007 10:01 AM

Thanks Ladder.

I get mixed reports on what's accepted and by whom. Watching someone fly trip legs is pretty weak experience, but renting a twin and soloing in the soup at $18k is more than an FO makes in a year. You are right, I will have to see what they say.

flyguyniner11 04-02-2007 04:10 PM

the mins are still 600/100 just check airlineapps or colgans website

Yeah, that's what I saw too. With a lot of other regionals lowering their mins, you think Colgan will do the same if 500/80 is incorrect?

Well lets see......... jetBlue and Airtran arent hard at all to get on with.....................CAL Doesnt really matter how much time you have, or what company you fly for, all who you know..............................

Ignorant

Hey call me ignorant but I wasn't even aware there was a debate about safety pilot minimums . I got my job at ASA with less than 50Multi, but had to make up to 50 by my class date, so they are actually strict with that although it is low by most peoples standards, and like 15 of those hours were safety pilot hours. I thought that was normal to use that, otherwise getting multi time is impossible and extremely expensive. I was trying to get the 15 PIC for MEI but ended up getting the job before I even had that, so even just buying time to get the PIC for the checkride is impossible unless you can split it with someone. So I don't think there's any problem with it, no one said anything about it to me.

Hmmm.

Maybe I should start sending out resumes.

new posting at www.climbto350.com shows the lower minimums. It's so new they haven't updated the sites yet probably

You're such a clown sometimes SAAB!

Dingo clearly points out you are wrong about CA's not moving on to better things, and u come back with jetblue and Airtran aren't hard to get on with. Last time i checked, while those 2 might not be the greatest places on earth, i would take either of those over making a lateral move to XJet any day of the week.

de727ups 04-02-2007 09:20 PM

Skywest used to not accept it as a sole source to meet their mins. This was mentioned by someone who did interviews at Skywest, as well as was a checkairman there, who has since gone on to Alaska.

Just cause the time is legal doesn't mean it commands respect in an interview. Those are two different things.

Personal opinion, a little cross-country-loophole-shared-multi isn't a problem. If you have a 100 hours of that, and the mins are 100 hours multi, you might get called out on it.

A multi CFI and some time instructing, I would think, looks much better than safety pilot time.

bigtime209 04-02-2007 10:13 PM

SAABaroowski, did you happen to go to Riddle?

Squawk_5543 04-03-2007 05:15 AM

You guys crack me up.......I start a thread to talk about Colgan mins and all of a sudden there are like 4 different discussions going on here. And now someone mentions Riddle. Here we go again...

Well I finally met a captain who hates Colgan. His big problem is with maintenence because stuff doesn't get fixed and they get stuck flying around with Mels.

Out of IAH, I can think of 1-Alaska, 5-SWA, 2-Evergreen, 2-CAL, 1-NJA, 2-Allegiant, and 1-UPS. That's prior to X-mas. Don't know since then.

In what regards????????????? Maybe in the legacy Airline Recruiting Dept, but QOL & Pay, serious upgrade who are you kidding?

PS. Lateral move.............coming from a CFI that sure does mean a lot ;)

Damn Sabb, another reason to not like you. :D My wife is a Yankees fan. I hate the Yankees. The only two teams rooting for is the Braves and any team that plays against the Yankess.
