"I love USA Jet, but it isn't fair to sugar coat everything to inquiring minds."

It is when you're in management...

I'm really curious as to who might 'look down on' someone's having flown cargo? And, what exactly their rationale might be?
haha the only people that look down on cargo pilots are the same people who think fed ex and ups are stepping stones. and they usually ask something like "how much longer till you can get hired by a commercial airline?"

I've always heald great respect for Cargo guys...just as much, if not more so than their pax-carrying counterparts. They're usually sharp-as-nails and most guys I know feel the same way.

Until about 5 months ago, I taxi'd by those every night in my C310! Although there's a ton of old Zantop planes scattered about on the west ramp though. A DC-8 over there collapsed on it's own nosewheel when I was living up there flight instructing. Poor old planes, but by that time I'm sure they've served their fair share of the flying hours they had to give.

As far as USA Jet, I'd always see things coming and going, and the one's sitting are pretty much parts' planes from what I can tell. You guys got a good thing going, people don't realize that there is money and good jobs to be made "in the dark side"** of aviation.

**Pun for 135/121 charter/freight If you've flown it, you know it otherwise, but I digress

I learned to fly from 2 guys--one was retired fedex, the other retired AA...while I always respected the AA guy's experience, the fedex/flying tigers guy seemed to have a lot more interesting stories!!!

I like the idea of freight dawgging because the missions are usually (sometimes) more interesting--i.e. "you guys have to get these packages from memphis to paris by tomorrow morning to keep the gears of the global economy and culture going" vs. "you guys have to get these tourists to orlando by tonight at 6 so their whiney spoiled kids can see Mickey yay!"

Ha ha...j/k...I'll take what I can get

I fly for a competitor north of KYIP and do the same job the USA Jet guys do. Its a rough lifestyle, some love it, some hate it. The constant on call, 20 minute call out takes it toll on pilots after a few months. USA Jet in my opinion is just the same as any other freighter operation, the only advantage over the regionals that I can see is the possible upgrade into the DC-9 that would happen a lot faster then if you took the airline route.

Also, you have to remember, there are some of us who would rather fly fewer hours per month, making higher pay, and end up with the same money as a regional working many more hours per month. Sure, it MIGHT slow down your career progression if you come in with really low time, but I'm still of the opinion that FO hours on a DC9 and a 2 737s (eventually) coming onto the certificate make USAJ a pretty darned attractive alternative...I could probably even see myself sticking out 6 years and getting my 1000 PIC on the 9 before going anywhere else.
