Live in base to escape regionals?
Anecdotally, I have noticed that almost all regional escapees who got hired by majors lived in base. I only know 1 pilot who commuted and got hired by a major.
Is it possible that those who live in base have better attitudes or have more time to jump through the tedious hoops like job fair scams and volunteering? Has anyone else noticed this? Is it a common trend or just coincidence? |

All you're going to get here are statistically meaningless anecdotes.
Majors don't care where you live (except for Hawaiian and maybe AS), and the amount of energy you devote to getting hired is up to you. |
As a commuter I think everyone else should live in base.
Commuting sucks! Everyone says so! Move to your base! Driving beats flying! You won’t get hired at a major if you commute!!! Everyone else stop commuting. Sincerely, A commuter that does not care about bases, because having the option to commute is one of the main reasons that I do this job. |
Most of the pilots (myself included) I know that have been hired since 2010 have been commuters. We were motivated to end the commute!
