You need to meet the FAR requirements, 1000 hours as per 14 CFR 121.436(a)(3)

Basically 1,000 hours in 121, 135, or 91k, but you need to read the details because there specific aircraft requirements for 135 & 91k.

When the OP gets there he might not need TPIC... UAL is hiring CFI's right now.

But he can upgrade, and go east for a while to get TPIC if needed. If he gets stuck, he can wait it out, or take a downgrade to get back home again.

Not commuting is good. Not getting stuck in a permanent long-range commute situation is priceless.

Or you can take your chances and follow the money. Everyone has to make their own decisions.

Meh, tell that to the guys getting forced out of the PNW bases. I’d chase the money.

Doesn't matter at all. You need 1000 hours of 121 time to act as PIC under 121.

The 135 SIC doesn't matter, but you can upgrade without 1000 121 if you have certain types of 135 PIC, 91 PIC, or military PIC. It doesn't need to be 121 time.

Correct. Some (not all) 135 or 91k time counts.

135 and 91k PIC in a turbojet airplane with more than 9 seats

up to 500 hrs of MIL pic time can be counted towards upgrade

OO requires 2500 fixed wing total time as well.

Or commuter 135. Cape Air guys have been DECs at several regionals over the past few years.

Shocked that’s allowed per FAR, its neither turbine or turbojet time. Wow.

Yeah somebody at the FAA let that slip through. Probably some career piston ASI.

UAL is not hiring CFI’s. There were 5 as a test case that went through months ago as a test case, and it didn’t go over well.
