Best cadet program?
 

I'll be applying for regionals in a year or two.

Right now Air Wisconsin offers flight benefits, $100 a month with no contract obligation.

Are there other regionals that offer something like that?

I don't have a preference for a specific airline.

Why is the cadet program important? I’m asking because it’s only a flash in the duration of your career. None of them are exclusive to my knowledge, though some may require a commitment or repayment if money is involved and you reneg.

Things are changing monthly at this point in the industry- I would not commit to any cadet/regional at all prior to ATP minimums- you will be in a much better position to tough it out financially to ATP minimums, and then make a decision based on the current information and climate at that time.

I thought about doing one of the cadet programs..but in all honesty, the combination of info on APC, and every airline coming out with some kind of program every 5 minutes right now. The industry (from a newcomers perspective) is very volatile. I'm waiting until the last minute before I even look at these cadet programs, and will just make a list of where I would like to go, based on information given...

Stay away from cadet programs. It’s just a marketing scam to get you to sign your life away when they’ll just hire you off the street when you have the hours. Keep your options open and don’t lock something down.

I did the cadet programs with Republic, AWAC, and SkyWest.

None of them required any commitment from me. AWAC was worth my time since they paid me for my time to interview (about 250-300$?), and I was able to earn 100$ a month through it.

SkyWest was nice as it allowed me to earn *company* longevity (not seniority), which helped things like profit sharing things kick in sooner *if* I decided to go with them later. You also get first pick of base in class.

Republic cadet program didn't really offer much, other than some swag and access to some E175 training material months in advance.

I ended up going with none of those, and went Endeavor instead.

However, I was able to earn around an extra $1300 over my remaining time as a CFI just from being a part of the AWAC cadet program. With theirs, nothing is binding until you partake in their ATP-CTP course.

Envoy is the only one I'm aware of that has a commitment-based cadet program.

Things may have changed over the last year, but that's how I understood the current climate.

Everyone telling you a blanket statement that *all* cadet programs aren't worth your time haven't done their research.

Well done.. piedmont, envoy and psa have similar programs and they are commitment based. Bit you will earn more money just waiting and got committing.

What's the big deal with a commitment? You get money from them and if you leave before the commitment is done you pay back the rest pro rated. If you're not planning on staying or don't end up going, don't spend all the money. In the end you'll have gotten more money than your class mates who didn't participate

That works if you only participate in one. If you order the “cadet program sampler” it doesn’t quite work out the same. Question: If funds are tight as a CFI, why would you needlessly create another debt?
