How does your Union handle social media
Just curious.
As I know there are and can imagine there are other, "secret" facebook groups for all the pilot groups. Rightfully so, ours was shut down due to some Diamond Platinum Status asshattery... since it is basic uncontrollable its basically recommended to not have a "secret" group as just having a secret group itself could be viewed as a possible type of work action (not my words). Unfortunately, all the good uses are now not available... Personally I don't think they are "secret" so much to hide it from the Company or anything, more like to keep it out of the public eye and that is just how FB works. In other words, how do you keep a useful tool but cull the herd of asshattery? |

Federal labor law protects free speech in the union hall. Show up at a meeting, say ANYTHING you want, go home. Since you're there, may as well learn Roberts Rules and participate in making real change. Until Facebook is recognized as an extension of the union hall, that's all ya got.
Not looking to have permission to have a free for all outside the union hall, just for the record. |
We do not have that problem and for the most part everything is civil and it is a great place to get information or ask questions. It is actively moderated and every current pilot is able to join. I think what helps to keep it useful is that once a pilot is removed from the seniority list (leaves the company) the union removes them from the private group.
