Why not Colgan?
I am just curious as to why one should not apply to Colgan. I am simply asking because I am a 36 yr old CFII, MEI and I am approaching the mins for Colgan. Now I am not about to run after the regionals that just dropped thier mins to com/inst/multi. Thats not what I am interested in. I am interested in a regional that has a base in my home region, New England. Thats why Colgan is attractive to me because of base locations and upgrade time. Being 36, I am not interested in waiting 6 years for upgrade. Also I have a wife and 2 yr. old daughter. My wife has a good career and if she did not work my pursuit of being a professional pilot would not be an option.
We are aware of the pay so I dont need to hear anything regarding food stamps...........I owned my own building company for 8 years and put away some dough to get us through the turbulence of a poor salary. I'll take the pay cut to pursue a dream. Now, is Colgan a good place to build 121 time and turbine time in order to move on to a fractonal job? Thats my long term goal. Thanks for reading my long winded post. Any advice is much appreciated. -Sham |
..... wait for it....... wait for it......

Wait for the negative posts? Because I expect plenty of them. I also would like to hear from any current Colgan pilots. I just dont want to put myself in a bad position. I can handle a few years of moderate BS in order to gain the valuable turbine pic time. But if its really bad then I will look at other options, maybe have to cummut to base.

I don't know of any fractionals that would rather see SAAB time than an ERJ, sorry, its the truth Another note.................This is not a "Hobby" for most of us, its a career, we can't afford Food Stamp Salaries, I dont own a building |
I didn't say she was wealthy. But 2 salaries are better than one. In todays day and age most households have dual income. If you live alone I can see the problem with the low pay. I agree its to low, but I didnt say I didnt care about pay or work rules. Oh I care, but I also am not afraid of sacrifice. I have been in the Marines, and I was an 0311 (grunt) and learned how to tolerate BS.

6 legs a day, in the sh*t, is all the B.S. you need, you dont need, your schedule re-arranged, and broken airplanes that get "patched" up by incompetent mx people |

With all due respect........................ ...I really don't know where to begin. You a 36 yr old man with a family and you want to take a job for a company that will treat you like a god**** slave. I am glad you have a wife that makes money, for those of us that dont have wealthy spouses, we need regionals to pick up their pay. Those like you that don't care about pay, work rules, certainly does not help any of us. I don't really want to get started on bashing Colgan, I have an early show tomorow, but I will say this.......................Go to Colgan becuase you dont want to wait 6 years to upgrade (Unless you mean Eagle, 6 years to upgrade at any Quality regional is just BONKERS:D ). Myself and many many many I have met have had the same thoughts as you, including myself, and after being abused, tortured and treated like a lowlife scum, you will get sick of COLGANS garbage and move on, wasting time (Your not too young)

This isn't a hobby for me and dont be negative towards me because I might have WORKED for everything I have. I paid for my own flight training like most of us. Because I am older than you I might have more money than you, thats how it works. But to imply that its a hobby to me, please........I guess flight instructing is a hobby. Sorry I own a house too. I didnt post this to get personal buddy. Just asking for good info, thats all.

No problem, point taken.

HOWEVER............................The SAAB is by far the most bad ass airplane out there, CT-7's never let me down ;), The SAAB essentially is the 787 of Turbo-Props
