Comair question

How come whenever I fly into CVG there are a bunch of aircraft sitting on the ramp idle? It is amazing to me. At American Eagle our planes are being used almost 24/7 with very little reserves.

Sanchez 04-25-2007 09:38 AM

Fleet utilization varies from carrier to carrier. I'm willing to bet that ever since Delta cut back hours from comair, their fleet just simply doesn't get as much time anymore. Again, just as guess.

Mosyslack 04-25-2007 12:14 PM

That was part of the right-sizing of CVG and our operation. Some of the planes are going back to the leasor(s). Some of them may even be available for the RFP that we are all anxiously awaiting the final announcements on.

I'll sell you some of the planes...

Tinpusher007 04-25-2007 01:04 PM

When is the RFP supposed to be announced? And do you think it's likely DL will assign the remaining CR9's to Comair?

Oh yeah the mysterious RFP. . .

Wasn't that supposed to be announced before the next ice age.

Mosyslack 04-25-2007 04:45 PM

Tinpusher...sorry, I was being kinda sarcastic. The whole thing was a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Big D was talking of 140 something planes being up for grab and so far (was supposed to be announced in Nov 06) 30, maybe have been allocated. 12 of the 70's that went to SkyWest/ASA were a deal already made and not part of the RFP. The remaining 16 or 14 900's... who knows. Maybe the honrable judge or Grinstein himself. Possibly a magic 8 ball

I thought sure when mother DL bought the 30 CR9's that they were destined for you guys. I was ****ed when I heard 14 were going to MESA of all places...I can imagine how you must feel.

Unfortunately this is how the whole company (Delta and Comair) has operated for quite some time and this is no surprise. Now we have celebrations planned for our triumphant exit from bankruptcy. Thanks for all of your sacrafices (read paycuts), now the execs get a nice bonus for that boat they have been eyeing for some time now. Bitter...naw

anyone hear anything today about delta taking away a lot of Comair's flying?

Also heard Comair is picking up COEX flying? any supporters of this info?

I'm talking about recently, like with in the last day or two, and the loss of flights being substantial. Friend of mine said they saw something about it on the news today out in CVG

Blkflyer 04-26-2007 08:18 PM

Delta is not taking fying from Comair they may be shifting the Flying but our Flying for May has increase as for the COEX rumor thats all it is I suppose.. you see Comair cannot submit RFP to any Company unless/untill we are not a part of Delta.,,, Can you say Conflict of Interest... One think you will learn in this Business is that RUMOUR spreads faster than wild fires in southen call on a dry hot summer day.....as for the NEWS they dont know anymore than we ie the employees do.. just another Slow News day in CVG

Oh...in that case, no not recently, but if there is truth to it, maybe that explains why they haven't called me for an interview yet.:D

Thumbs882 04-27-2007 09:26 AM

I don't know why they havent called you yet. They are still interviewing three days a week, with a new hire class starting every Monday. No recent loss of flying.

Tinpusher,

Please provide feedback from the career fair. Very interested in the Comair question.

Apollo

How is Comair to work for? I was told that they visited Vincennes University awhile back, but they didn't end up hireing any grads.

Ok...just went to the career fair yesterday. There were several airlines there including OH, EV, FL, WN, OO, 9E and a few others. I went to the Comair table and they took my resume and then sent me to another room where they were doing interviews on the spot...BUT were not offering jobs on the spot. I was interviewed by a Capt and it went as follows. Looked through my resume...asked how many hours in last 60 and 90 days. Asked about failed checkrides. Asked about vyse, FAF on an ILS. Asked if vectored for ILS @ 4000ft and cleared for app @ 4k is GS int @4k the FAF. 3 stages of a t-storm and what is the most dangerous. Why Comair? All in all it was pretty painless. He said they would review my app again once they get back to Cincy and I will be contacted for an interview in CVG if the decide to. Pretty straight-forward but I couldn't read this guy very well. The career fair was a good experience though...I got offered interviews from TSA, PSA and Colgan..all wanted to bring me in this week. Ok enough rambling...PM me (anyone) for more details of the fair or OH.
