Default Where to go for a DEC?

Hello fellow aviators! Long story short I was a CA for XJT and ended up getting cancer twice and have been out of flying for almost 6 years. I have been cleared to go back to work and am looking for a DEC position. Ill be commuting out of KSAN and have done so my whole career. I'm currently looking at all EMB145 operators and Horizon. Also I have been offered a skype interview with Commute Air. Looking for advice and if anyone has experience in being a DEC. Thank you for your time!

How much PIC jet time do you have. You might qualify for a homebased MD-80 DEC at Everts Air Cargo.

I was a CA for about 5 months. 5.5K TT almost all turbine 121 with 300 PIC turbine. I got hired out of a 141 school with 242 TT. Thank you for the recommendation and I'll look into the operation. I'd love to fly the maddog and being home based would be awesome.

Lol, Hired into a 121 gig at 242TT. Yet somehow the young pilots of today have it "easy".


I'd skip the regionals man. It's really for the birds. Look at ACMI and charter. Swift would be a good fit for you (home based).

Hired in 2003 and made 17k my first year and 21.5k my second. It was hard to survive man... I slept on a blow up mattress for 2 years lol! Thanks and I'll look into Swift, read an article on how they want to do a massive fleet expansion.

Thank you, it has been a long road and I cant wait to cloud surf again. Nothing beats the sound of a jet starting, I love it!

Funny, after many years I now prefer the sound of a jet shutting down, at the gate, last leg.

That was actually pretty rare, and you typically had to pay for it. Most of us had 1500/300+.

And then we got stuck as FO's for seven years if you were lucky, furloughed and out of the industry if not. Started at $19K, worked your way up to $32k. And um, yeah about that... no bonuses either.

It's horrible how bad today's entry-level pilots have it... they have to get 1500 hours (like most of us) AND some of them won't top $300K until after the age of 30!

99% of them won't top 300k by 30.
