I’ve been commuting from PDX to SEA and MFR with Horizon. I’ve never missed a flight, and have rarely sat in the jump. We get priority on Horizon flights as a registered commuter between your base and home. I think it would be pretty easy for you to go with either Horizon or Compass. Latest vacancy bid had some pretty junior people getting PDX on the Q400, so you may not have to commute that long. That is, if you don’t mind sitting reserve and barely flying for your first year.

NEVER COMMUTE for a REGIONAL!!!

NEVER COMMUTE REGIONAL!!11!!!! Always uproot family for regional!!! Must sell home for regional!!! No life at regional!!!
Seriously, folks, there are good commutes and bad commutes. A bad commute sucks. A good commute gives you almost as much time at home as living in base, plus you get to live where you want. "You won't see your family much if you commute." You know what? At a lot of these gigs, you won't see your family that much if you don't commute, either. "You can't pick up extra flying." No, you can't pick up work as easily. Yes, you can still pick up. Also, you can credit less than 100 hours per month and still be a legit regional pilot. You might not have as much to complain about with a good commute, though, and that might not make you a legit regional pilot. |
See above.
