E175 order for United Express at Paris Show

Embraer announced order with United Express for 20 E175s with 19 options at the Paris Airshow. So who will get these..... It would seem CRJ700 are on the way out.

Text from the announcement:

The E175s will be configured with 70 seats and replace older aircraft in United's feeder fleet, likely Bombardier CRJ700s, says the carrier's chief financial officer Gerry Laderman.

Replacing older aircraft is a necessity for United, which can only have up to 255 with 70-76 seats in its regional fleet under its contract with pilots. It operated CRJ700s, Embraer 170s and E175s that, together, totalled that number at the end of March, its latest fleet plan shows.

Laderman describes the E175 as a "terrific aircraft" for the United Express fleet, adding that some passengers view it as "nice or nicer than some mainline narrowbodies".

United's regional partners ExpressJet Airlines, Mesa Airlines and SkyWest Airlines operate some 153 E175s for the mainline carrier.

Laderman says United will at a later date determine which regional partner will operate the 20 newly ordered firm E175s.

ExpressJet will be flying these.

I second Express Jet

Isn’t SkyWest supposed to get the next order for 175’s after ExpressJet got the last order?

If not, then good for XJT!

Never was the deal for the next batch of 175 flying. The deal was for more dual class flying. That includes CRJ550. SkyWest only flies their own 175s.

Budgiesmuggler 06-17-2019 05:51 AM

Does that mean that it will be a two horse race between Express Jet and Mesa?

With one holding a pilot group from the displaced CRJ700 and one that is establishing a pilot group for the E175 while trying to maintain E145 flying?

Also the other thing of note with Mesa is the fact that they recently hired a former United Airlines’ Senior Vice President of United Express Operations. I would of thought he would put a compelling case together.

Either way it will be interesting to see where they go.

Compass to replace the 20 going back to AAG

I thought deal for Skywest was to get next batch of 175s. Would make sense since they are giving gojet 29 crj to get modified...

Pretty sure this is accurate. While OO typically only flies their planes, they have a few aircraft owned by Delta.

Yep. All there 900 “atmospheres” are DL owned along with a few other 700/900’s.. I'm still putting my money on XJT. But at the expense of some 145’s that 550’s will replace...

United can have as many 50 seaters it wants. The scope is issue so they need to rid themselves of CRJ700s

Id be shocked if CP didn’t make a play for them. On the other hand I’d be shocked if the American birds leave in the next couple of years unless AAG is willing to buy out the contract.

When does the contract end? I’ve heard different things, but 2020 is the common answer.

That’s the delta contract. The 20 AA planes are still a few years away 2222/23 from what I’ve seen on here.

I think it’s even a bit later than that even.

I would be amazed if this transpired in the next 20 years, at the soonest. They may have the technology to fly themselves, obviously we have auto pilot now, but it is the infrastructure that would need to go in, world wide to make it happen. All it would take is for something to happen on a flight and it would all come crashing down, no pun intended. Humans are an interesting breed in that we can accept human failure and move on, however when technology fails we have an assumption that it should be perfect all the time.

We haven't even perfected any form of driverless vehicle yet and this guy is saying he is ready for us to move hundreds of people around at a time without one.

The Max debacle set this back even further in terms of public opinion. I do think that the current batch of pilots coming into the industry are the last of the two pilot age, perhaps even any pilot age, however that is still a 40 year window.

IIRC, Six years with an option to extend is what they told Eagle when they gave them away for voting no. That would be 2020.

They don’t exactly have a stellar track record of dropping truth bombs over in Euless.

x2. There are numerous technical, regulatory, and human hurdles to unmanned airliners.

The technology exists for the planes to FLY by themselves, but they cannot solve problems by themselves. Humans are by far the most COST EFFECTIVE means of problem solving.

I suspect airbus is just talking this up now to start the dialog, won't really matter for decades. But kind of a dumb move IMO... the industry is going to need several hundred thousand pilots before it needs zero. Why is airbus trying to scare the noobs away???
