AWAC hiring update

Pinnacle, Colgan, Big Sky, RAH, Skywest, and MAG are all growing..but some of you may still desire to work for Air Wisconsin. If so, here is the scoop.

The mass attrition many were expecting (including myself) has not to date materialized, although it is starting to pick up. Projected hiring is at least 14/mo "into the foreseeable future". The company will also be at the ATL AirInc fair doing interviews on the spot, if anybody is so inclined to give Kit Darby their hard-earned bucks. Rumor from a CKA meeting is 8 upgrades/mo indefinitely to accompany newhires.

No news on the restructuring grievance...of course the company doesn't want to give us jack but hopefully something, anything will be coming down the pike on that in the coming few months. The CEO has said in recent crewroom meetings the company would like it settled and done with...take that with a grain of salt.

Keep in mind this is all for ATTRITION ONLY, but if you want to live in PHL/DCA/ORF or have an easy commute to one of those places this might be a good place for you.

Got my interview on the 9th of May FINALLY! I have had to reschedule 3 times now. TSA wouldn't give me the days off nore could I get them bidding. Sounds like AWAc may have problems finding qualified pilots with their actual minimums without type ratings. I hope to be there soon! I'm sick of waterskiing. How is the ORF base? I'm based with TSA in RIC and it would be an easy move. I know another post said there isn't much flying on reserve but I'm passed the big shinny jet gotta fly now state of mind. I just love my days off so I can go to the beach. I love the beach and I don't like commuting so ORF would be good for location.

is this attrition caused my captains moving on or FO's jumping ship?

Both...average CA attrition over the last few months is 8.

are there a lot of lifer captains at AWAC? Or is it just that theyre not getting jobs with majors as quickly as they had anticipated

There used to be when you could relatively easily earn six figures on the BAe-146 flying out of ATW and DEN.

AWAC lost 23 people in April out of a pilot group of 810 which is 2.84% of our entire pilot group. Some FO's have left for greener pasutres. Our attrition is about the same as SkyWest when you look at it as a percentage of the pilot group (but we don't have any growth). CA's here for the most part are looking for jobs, and as majors, LCC's, etc. start to hire.... things will move. Just about everyone I've flown with over the last two months has their resume out and/or are waiting for a class date. Out of the 23 people who left in April ~14-16 were CA's (just looking at employee #'s).

We're hiring now (on site) at these job fairs. as BoilerUP said.... Hiring 14/mo. upgrading as needed (vacancy notice today for 10 Captains)... vacancy notice 2 weeks ago for 13 Captains. Good place to be!

Thats the end of my rant.....

BoilerUP... dude of all the companies listed above.... I don't see anything very appealing man. For what its worth I have a friend who has been at Colgan who is coming up on month 18 on the SF34 and doesn't look like he's going to upgrade for a little while yet. RAH---a friend has been there two years (CHQ) and is still an FO... BigSky/MAG---why would anyone want to work there? Pinnacle---the Next MAG.... SkyWest/XJT/AWAC---pretty good places to be.

I am a pretty senior F/O at AWAC and at least two of the F/Os who left are senior to me!! I hope they got a better job. I am fruckin' happy that they left 'cuz it's good for me!! :D

There is FINALLY a bit of movement at AWAC.

If you like the east coast and can commute easily to PHL or DCA or ORF get your stuff in.

For all the negativity, there are worse places to be. After all, you could be earning $19/hour to fly 90-seat jets. You will earn better at AWAC.

There is plenty appealing with each of those airlines, depending entirely on each person's situation. Colgan is getting the Q400, albeit at a crappy (management-assigned) payrate. Junior upgrade at RAH this last round went to a 4/14/05 hire. Big Sky is hiring 1900 street CAs at the best 19 seat pay in the industry. Mesa...well I dunno any good reasons to work there unless you absolutely must live and work in PHX. Pinnacle the next MAG - why on earth would you say that?

When I was hired at AWAC I wanted to work here (and I still do...) but RAH would have been better because I could have been based where I lived and sat reserve on my couch. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an interview there, even after they announced CRJs were coming. Don't get me wrong; I'm not a jaded ATW hater, have decent schedules living in domicile and enjoy my job...but I don't drink the Toontown kool-aid, either.

AWAC is a good company to work for and I wanted to make sure those interested had current info. I'm not trying to steer anybody away from here...but many folks don't want to work for a company that isn't growing where they'll potentially have a year on reserve, and I can't say I blame them for that.
