Disney Airlines

"Starting in 2021, The Disney Company will acquire smaller regional airlines to focus it’s (sic)operations on offering flights out of Orlando to and from major airport hubs including Detroit, Chicago, LaGuardia, and LAX."
I wonder what they mean by "regional".

Sounds like a perfect fit for Moxy. Deadheading on a Disney airline could only be described as hell on earth.

amcnd 07-01-2019 08:53 AM

Some of the other “news” on that website seem questionable..... more like a APC for Disney...

Knobcrk1 07-01-2019 09:14 AM

South West Airlines? Also I think they mean acquiring aircraft not airlines. Clearly the writer has no idea about what they’re writing about. Probably just a leak out there to see consumer reaction on an idea.

BlueMoon 07-01-2019 09:54 AM

Nothing on any of the reputable Disney fan sites.

Actually I think they are correct in the meaning. It would be easier to acquire an airlines certificate versus setting one up from scratch. Buy airplanes and you still need a certificate.

Every announcement has to be made using the Donald Duck voice

In related news, has anyone seen Hulas?

I heard he was spotted at BUR.

All pilots must wear Launchpad cartoon heads when outside the crewroom.

If they tried to run just from hubs as stated, the majors would run routes at a severe loss until Disney Air collapsed under their own weight. Newsflash: having buses and running an airline are not the same thing.

Disney can afford to fly at a loss.
I think they make their $ at the park and hotel.

It’s always amazed me that price dumping is illegal in just about every other industry but it’s just business as usual in the airline biz. I guess the right politicians just haven’t been paid off.

msprj2 07-01-2019 07:30 PM

Disney is bigger than the 3 majors.

I’d imagine that the merchandising is their real bread and butter. A 25 cent Chinese made trinket with Mickey or a Star Wars character painted on it sells for $10 or $20 and they sell millions of little trinkets everyday.

True 15 Billion in profits annually

Imagine looking in cockpit and seeing Disney characters at the controls. Kids would love it

Not necessarily. Moxy is going to cater to smaller towns and avoid hubs. LGA, LAX, etc.. are all major hubs

I wonder if they could re-open the Disney airport and then make it so only a Disney owned airline could land there...

More likely, it'd be welcome to Walt Disney-Sanford International Airport...

Rahlifer 07-02-2019 03:27 AM

The more I think about it, it does seem like a good idea. I’m sure there’s no shortage of people that would gladly pay a huge premium for a Disney flight. They could even add their own terminal or private airport. There’s plenty of folks dropping $10k plus for a five day vacation so an extra couple grand for a semi private air experience doesn’t seem unreasonable.

Theaveragejoker 07-02-2019 08:09 AM

And if a Disney branded plane skidded off a runway? Misplaced a bag? Or worst case, crashed?

Too much risk, too low reward.

SonicFlyer 07-02-2019 10:36 AM

I can't imagine taking a Disney cruise with 3000 screaming kids trapped on a boat. Being on a plane with 100 screaming kids sounds like less fun.

I think you are confusing the phrase "price dumping" with "loss leader"

And Mickey was fired for sexually harassing Minne.

I saw the Princess parade when I took the family to Disney. I knew right away I couldn’t work there. Cause they were all looking right at me with their little waves and smiling so pretty.

I think I cried a little actually.

Disney is Satan.

I follow a channel on Youtube that is run by I guess we’ll say an adult performer. In one of the videos he was describing the year he spent working for Disney as hell on earth. I’m sure there will be plenty of regional guys applying to the newest C-scale operation.

Could even be Huey, Dewey, and Louie at the controls! They are Donald Duck’s nephews.

They'd have to move it. The monorail near the Magic Kingdom transportation building blocks the approach & departure at one end, they'd have to significantly lengthen it too.
Probably better to relocate it to the extreme north end of the property and plunk it down there instead. Restrict it to Disney flights and those wanting to pay Disney rates to use it.

Boneman 07-10-2019 04:28 AM

The concept is not new. The original AirTran (not the ValueJet version), was exactly that, but instead of flying into major hubs we flew to secondary airports such as ALB, PVD, RIC, etc.
It was proving to be successful until SWA moved into MCO and started flying to the very same cities with multiple flights per day, and charging lower prices.

I had this same thought at one time.

Ended up being the best cruise I've ever taken and the experience wasn't anything like I had expected - to include your thought of 3000 kids running wildly about, primary colors at every turn and not being able to turn around without bumping into some character.

They do an EXCELLENT job of keeping certain areas of the ship 'adult' only - and they mean it. I watched a few crew members get a couple of 15-16 y/os out of the adult pool area. There was no turning a blind eye to it.

A cruise with thousands of kids trapped on a boat?
