Sony w/ avee or bose a20s

Finishing up my cfi career and looking to go to republic in the next 3 months. In the market for a new headset. Currently have the bose X. My headset is falling apart, but still functional. I know bose has a 300$ trade in for the A20s which would knock them down to $795, but I feel like they are overkill. Other option that really interests me is the sony wh-1000xm3 w/avee mic. That set up would be around 600$. Is it worth it to spend the extra 200 or would the Sony set up work just as well? Just looking for opinions as I'm going back and fourth.

Think the Sony have better noise canceling... Plus better custom settings.

It's pretty quiet. You don't need a lot. A lot of the people I fly with use the ship headsets. There's 3

I hadn't heard of avee until you mentioned it. I have a QC25 I got on sale from Amazon 2 years ago for $180 and the NFlightMic which is similar to the UFlyMike but can also be used with the Sony headphones. Honestly unless you're going to commute I'd save the money and go with the QC25. I want to go the Sony route eventually but I can't justify the extra expense when the QC25 is so quiet. I used to use a Lightspeed Zulu ANR before this and I wish I had made the switch much sooner

If you end up getting an ANR headset, get one with the Airbus plus so you don't have to fool with batteries.

I'd stay away from Avee with QC25s. The microphone kit has a potential problem connecting properly with certain QC25s. There's know way to know if the headphones you receive will work with the kit and there's nothing they can do about it.

Avee knows about this problem but they don't warn customers beforehand. I dealt with the issue for two months, trying two different kits they shipped. I had to get a refund in the end.

I am also looking at the Sonys + crystal mic combo. If I pull the plug, I'll report back

I use Bose QC35iis with Ufly Mic. Best thing I ever could have bought for myself. Uflymic is finishing up their TSO certification process for the QC35 mic. In the QC35 case, the mic and adapter fits quite nicely and is very compact, about half the size of the A20 case. Then you also have the headphones to listen to music or movies while you deadhead/commute in the main cabin. You can do that with A20’s BT capability, but you’ll look like a serious dork.

A20s are absolutely overkill for a turbojet cockpit like the CRJ.

If the Bose QC isn’t your cup of tea, I would still recommend the headphone with an add on mic option for airliner flying.

I’ve known some Avee owners, and they all have said that they’ve had quality problems with the Avee product.
