Colgan Air Interview

I just got a call today from Colgan and they want me to interview with them this Monday. This is my first airline interview...so any help, thoughts, comments about the interview or about Colgan in general would be appreciated. Thanks.

What hours did you apply with?

duvie 05-03-2007 02:13 PM

I've got two buds at Colgan who have almost polar opposite views about the company and lifestyle.

One guy loves how he can shuffle trips around with the other guys in his base to make commuting easier. He likes that you get to fly tight approaches into small airports and still maintian more stick and rudder elements of flying.

The other guy is paranoid that he will get passed up for upgrade if he doesn't play the game just right. He is constantly looking over his shoulder regarding legality issues.

It seems to me that if you don't mind confronting and saying "no" to dispatchers and other management types on a semi regular basis you will get along just fine.

I applied with 530 total, 78 multi

The interview is pretty standard. Written, Sim, & Face-to-Face with HR & Capt./FO. I have heard & read that some of the interviews are being conducted at headquarters in Manassas meaning no written/sim. AviationInterviews.com & WillFlyForFood.CC will square you away with more of the specifics.

Try to relax (easier said than done in some instances, I know) and just be personable. Be yourself and be honest. If you deserve the job you'll get it.

Keep asking questions if there's ANYTHING else you're interested in knowing.

??????????????????????????????????????????

I'm saying if you're afraid of saying no when you feel uncomfortable then Coglan will abuse you.

If you're afraid of saying no when you're uncomfortable in aviation you've got other issues. Anyway...

"constantly looking over his shoulder regarding legality issues & confronting and saying "no" to dispatchers and other management types on a semi regular basis"

Seems like a pretty bold statement referencing a 121 operator in this setting. If I didn't know any better and was reading through these threads in search of information I don't even know what I'd think of those statements.

Spoke to Colgan

Well I spoke to Mr. Colgan, thought it went very well. He said I should complete the long application online and we would talk again. He stated there would be interviews next week in Houston. I completed the online app and that was almost two days ago. No word from anyone.
Has anyone had the same experience and if so did you get the invite over the phone for the interview?

Im interviewing this Mon May 7th as well. Will you be interviewing at LGA?

rocketman99 05-04-2007 07:26 AM

Guys, just relax and be yourselves and pretty sure things will go fine. Study up your ATP question bank for the test. if you're interviewing in LGA be prepared for the 1900 sim. It flies easy enough though and you're not expected to be spectacular or even much more than mediocre flying it your first time.

And if all goes well, welcome to the family.

ceyoung 05-04-2007 04:02 PM

Yeah I am interviewing at LGA...I'm flying out of Kansas City and so they booked me on the 6:10 am flight out of here and I won't be getting to LGA until 11. I hope I can make it through the day....

Well if it wasn't Friday evening I would tell you to try and get ahold of someone there and find out how you are supposed to be getting there. Where are you supposed to be flying out of?

dingo222 05-04-2007 04:30 PM

ps362, call colgan asap and get your flight info before monday.

McNasty 05-04-2007 04:38 PM

You'll do fine in the interview. Its a pilots market these days they need you more than you need them. I would be surprised if you didn't get the job, but if you don't live near one of the bases I might check out some other airlines. Plenty of other people are hiring.

PS362 05-04-2007 04:40 PM

Yankees/flight info

Disregard . .

Tinpusher007 05-14-2007 07:59 AM

So I got the job on the 7th but politely declined a few days later. PM me if you have any questions about it.
