Side Jobs?

Do any of you guys/gals work on days off? Do you have enough days off time to make an extra $10,000 a year from a separate job?

POPA 05-03-2007 08:06 PM

That's a pretty broad question.
I mean, if you have some sort of job that pays $2K a day, then it would be pretty easy to make an extra ten grand. If you work at McDonald's, it probably won't happen.

There's always AMWAY.....................

tjunior 05-03-2007 08:12 PM

What do you guys do on days off?
How many days off do you have a month?

Past V1 05-03-2007 08:22 PM

I read Airline Pilot Forums all day...LOL!!!

Stock Market! Micro, Day, and Swing trading. You can even do this on the days you DO work. $10,000 is only $50.00/day of profit after trade commissions. Totally feasible.

I don't have enough days off to work a full-fledged side job, so if I so feel the need to work on them, I pick up open time for a little extra cash.

10 days min. off/month, and I chase my hobbies on my days off (mountain biking, skiing, etc.).

I do some website and computer course design on the side, it adds an extra 20k/yr. Not a bad gig if you know how to do web stuff, there's plenty of work out there too.

ghilis101 05-04-2007 06:15 AM

become a substitute teacher. usually around $100 a day

BoilerUP 05-04-2007 07:03 AM

Opentime! 2nd year FO and I can easily make $500 picking up a two-day trip. Did just that for May and I'm down to only 15 days off...but up to 92 hours credit.

I know a few regional guys that work as real estate agents on my parents comp.. up north! But as the market is going I assume this wont be a good year.

Bartend at a Banquet Hall. If it's a classy place, you can usually make 200-400 a night. The only issue is your weekends are almost always shot then.

Where do I learn how to do that? Are there classes
I could sign up for?

mregan 05-13-2007 10:21 AM

they have 2-3 days seminars that you can go to and learn. they just had one here in BOS last fall. One of my Captains does it and he does pretty well at it I must say. Im thinking about maybe starting to do it as well.
**Substitute teaching is a good one too

TU144 05-13-2007 10:24 AM

You can learn that in 2-3 days?

mregan 05-13-2007 10:36 AM

for daytrading, yes,, and then they have programs for your computer where you can go in and practice, before you go and do it with your own money. I will call my Captain and ask him exactly the name of the seminar he went to and get you the necssary info.

I heard of a SKW FO that became a DE. if you meet the mins, apply with the FAA and do checkrides in your spare time, that could be as much as $300-450 per ride...

One of the check pilots here at Riddle does that. He's an FO at SKW out of TUS. On days off, he does checkrides up here at PRC.

Buy/Build a storage unit, I know several people who own them. They say those things are cash cows if they are in the right location. One is a regional captain an he has plenty of time to run it by himself.

CNBC has stuff all day, and if you are going to sit in front of the TV---you mine as well get something out of it right? I like to watch Jim Cramer whenever I can.... http://www.cnbc.com/id/15838459/

I'd like to get into day trading eventually.... another good place to get some real experience without losing your a$$ is http://www.vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Homepage.aspx (free stock simulation/compeitions). I had to use that site for a class in college.... good times!
