Sadly though, it is truly a global economy and 99% of the stuff you find can be had cheaper on Amazon or Ebay. I try to look for the hand made stuff to bring home.

You definitely have to haggle the crap out of the markets in HKG or China to get a good deal, but it can be done. Almost everyone in China WILL rip you off if you’re a westerner. There is a guy with a shop in Shanghai at the Science and Technology metro stop that caters to air crew... He’s not the cheapest, but he’s pretty good and has some cool stuff.

I’ve had good luck in Vietnam with buying shoes and clothes for a reasonable price, and some of the retail stores in Malaysia (KUL and PEN) are a good deal with no haggling.

I don’t like people, but I still get out and do stuff. When I was at the regionals, I did lots of hiking, and even did some pretty cool mountain biking a few times. If nothing else, I’d go for really long walks and explore/take pictures of weird stuff I found.

Now that I’m at a major and fly only international trips, I have long layovers and still go hiking, check out cool museums (recently found an amazing car museum in Tokyo), find weird street markets, etc. Most importantly for me, I love exploring and sampling the different types of foods!

A lot of our guys like to just go out and drink and may not even get past the local Irish/western bar. As I grow older, I’m finding that to be pretty boring and horrible for sleep. Anything I can do that isn’t that is my goal.

That’s pretty much what I do.
I’ve taken the train/bus to Dragon Ridge in Hong Kong and hiked down to the beach. Did an 8 mile hike in Korea out to the boonies and ordered food from a restaurant with no English menus. The owner treated me like a celebrity. Took a bus from Brussels to Waterloo and spent the day hiking around the battle field. Hiked up to Diamond Back from my hotel in Honolulu.
But I did the same at the regionals. Road bikes along the water ways of San Antonio, OKC, Montreal, Omaha and many other cities. Most of these things don’t cost very much.
Like No Land 3 the moment someone mentions a US chain overseas they’ve lost me. Even if I’m in the mood for a burger I find a local place. Best burger I ever had on the road was in a small Korean bar in Incheon in a back alley.
So much to see, so little time.

Must be new, last time I used airline apps it wasn't there and I would remember because it applies to me.

its not new, it was there when I was first applying to regionals back in 2014. And I was asked about it on a subsequent interview in 2018.

That's relatively new for me I guess.
