Domicile near Grand Rapids?

I know I'm going to get flamed here, but what airlines have domiciles in Grand Rapids? I've performed searches in the threads with no luck.

IN Grand Rapids? None that I know of. ORD and DTW would probably be your closest options in terms of airline crew bases.

I'm sorry I don't know the airline symbols :( I'm assuming that DTW is probably detroit? No idea what ORD is though... I"ll try doing a search through google.

Thanks for the info!

ORD is Chicago/O'Hare.

Maybe look at MCI and STL as well. MCI is Kansas City and if you can't figure out stl you should find a new career path :)

I am not a fan of ATP (they are way too expensive), but they do have a somewhat decent resource for airline domiciles. It is slightly out of date (Says AWAC still has a base in DEN), but I would say it is 95% correct.
Check it out.

if its your first airline, Skyway in MKE is hiring to. Not a bad one legger with backups through DTW, ORD, MSP, CVG, and CLE.

From GRR, Pinnacle/Mesaba in Detroit or Eagle/Skywest at Chicago O'Hare will be your best bets.

Mesaba gets a bunch of flack. Have to do more research before I can decide. Skywest gets good reviews and I've heard alot of good things about pinnacle. Haven't heard much about Eagle. Anyone have some info on them?

Seemed like a reasonable question and this website is an excellent source of info.

Thanks everyone for the information! You're right everyone is very informative on this forum. Although not all of them are exactly upbeat, but very informative. Considering I don't know much of anything about the business I am like a sponge just soaking up the information.

What's your experience level? Are you a CFI building hours or just getting started?

When I was getting started, I wanted to be in Chicago and I had my sights set on Air Wisconsin and ACA. Look what happened there... Unfortunately, it's difficult to predict who will be where in the (not so) distant future. I hope that SKYW will stay in Chicago because that's where I am now, but there's no guarantee to that. As far as base stability goes, Eagle is probably more of a sure thing for ORD, but not necessarily a great place to go now if you want to be a captain anytime soon.

Good luck!

Oh, and I just checked. There are like 7 United flights a day including a few SkyWest and even 3 UA 737's. On top of that there are about 4-5 American Eagle flights, but they tend to be weight restricted a lot. In other words, it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to get from GRR to ORD.

I think you are going to see Eagle captain upgrades running about 3 years if you are hired today. Check this thread if you are interested.

I was hired at AWAC in January of 2006. If folks hired at Eagle the same time upgrade before I do, I'll buy you a case of your favorite libation.

Any pilot should know how to find identifiers they don't know...airnav.com. Can't believe there's someone looking to get hired who doesn't know ORD.

I'm not looking for employment. I wasn't aware that airlines changed domiciles so often. I have a few years before I'm going to be in the job market, but I've always tried to do as much research as possible. I guess in this case I've began my research too soon.
