ORD Based
 

Question for Chicago locals:

I will likely be transferring to ORD within a couple of months, so what are some good neighborhoods to live in with good connection to ORD. I really like the suburbs north of ORD, but not exactly sure how difficult daily commute would be by car, public transportation, etc.

Car from the N/NW burbs works fine, subject to the particulars of your airline's parking arrangements/bus from the lot etc. Public transportation from the same burbs - look at the metra map, see if it works for the particular suburbs you are looking at, might be too time consuming.

Any suburb along the I-90 corridor is a good choice. I'm in Algonquin myself. 35-45 minute drive and I could choose to take the Metra if I chose to.

Niles is just North East of the airport. You can take the PACE bus down to Jefferson Street station and get in the blue line that will take you directly into the airport. Or, you can drive to employee parking, which takes about 15-20 min.

Or, you could look at Edison park, Jefferson park, park ridge. They’re all just north or east of the airport. Pretty easy to use public transport or be able to drive to the airport.

I was wondering about the same information when it comes to traveling from Deerfield or Northbrook, IL to ORD. How is the public transportation in this area or is it better to drive? What worries me is the winter months. Also, not sure how safe is the area around Mayfair/Montrose stations when it comes to public transportation. Thank you!

Deerfield and Northbrook are on the higher end if the cost spectrum for the suburbs, not Gold Coast high but up there. Metra is going to be your option for public transportation. Not sure if it will get you to the front door of the airport though.

Montrose on the blue line is not bad. Montrose and mayfair on the red line different story all together!

Anywhere off the blue line in the city if that’s your style. Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square.

Northwest suburbs are great, right off the tollway if you want to drive, quick shot to ORD. Elgin/Algonquin/Crystal Lake/Schaumburg.

I live 10 min north of ORD in Des Plaines. About 20-25 min door to door. No reliable public transit tho, so you have to drive.

Good information above, but a bit dated.

Anyone have, please:

1) Anything different to add?

2) The name of a property management company to work with (in terms of someone with local knowledge that might able to make recommendations/suggestions for specific rental properties)?

Service on the "L" (the Blue Line to O'Hare) has deteriorated post-Covid. I hear lots of complaints from people about long waits in between trains.
