Regionals- quick upgrade

Hello all this is my first post here and have noticed a lot of information comes from these threads so i appreciate the comments.

I'm working on my CFI and plan to build hours that way until my minimums. As far as considering a regional I would like to choose one with minimum time of reserve and lots of flying. Any suggestions? I am considering the cargo route and know I need 1,000 hrs PIC time to be eligible. Any thoughts on what type of flying I should be doing? Should I consider Ameriflight with their program with UPS or be a traditional hire?

Thanks

If by cargo you mean ACMI, you should be able to get on fairly quickly with 1-2K SIC at a regional, may need to get a little TPIC for some.

If you mean FDX/UPS, you're going to need a lot more than just 1000 TPIC at a regional to be competitive. You *might possibly* get called, and should apply as soon as you meet the minimums but don't hang your hat on that. You'll need to do some reading on their threads. They like heavy international time, I knew a couple guys who got a few 1000 TPIC at the regionals, then did ACMI for heavy/international and then got called.

Not sure how reliable the amflight thing is, go ask in their forum.

Also, I wouldn't rule out ANY big six airline, cargo or not, apply to all and take the first job you get. You'll have a great life.

ACMI= Aircraft maintenance insurance?
would flying for Atlas be a good gig to build time in heavy international?

ACMI - is a way of referring to yourself as a jumpseater in the third person

Additional Crew Member, I

An excellent way, assuming you are an independently rich masochist with perhaps a bit of a death wish...

Upgrades are quick at most Regional. What you want to look for is a Regional where you won't be on reserve for a year as an FO.
