Anyone in the AWAC May 28th class or any AWAC people who can tell me what to start studying. I'm coming from the ERJ and excited to start at a good company!!

Never too early to start looking at the limitations... Congrats and welcome;)

PeanutButter 05-11-2007 04:07 PM

screw it! just enjoy the time off cause you'll be busy enough during training! welcome aboard!

bizzum 05-11-2007 05:58 PM

Agree...enjoy your time off. They will give you PLENTY of time when you get there to know the stuff. AWAC has a very good training dept, and most of them will bend over backwards to help you as long as you have a good attitude. Congrats and good luck, you will enjoy it.

All you need to know about AWAC or the CRJ pre-Indoc is Leinenkugel Honey Weiss! They have it at the Texas Roadhouse and Applebees right beside the LaQuinta.

Study hard but partake regularly while in ATW...

PeanutButter 05-12-2007 05:30 AM

i recommend the Spotted Cow as well (you can get it at the roadhouse as well). good stuff

BoilerUP 05-12-2007 05:42 AM

How in the world do they get newhires to ATW these days? Do the bus em up from MKE or make you find your own way?

CRJflyer32 05-12-2007 06:51 AM

They send a van to get you in MKE and drive up to ATW. Only when I went through last year, they were out of vans, so the company also runs limos and they sent a white stretch for us! Pretty nice ride up there. Also the girls at the road house will dance for you if you ask them. We kept having them do it every night. And I recommend the spotted cow as well.

Love the avtar penut butter! Do that yourself?

I'd like to do that with the Airbus though. The 1900 (or what ever BE is in the photo) is probably more difficult to fly!:D

Do they have Old Milwaukee, Pabst, Point or maybe even Old Style?

They sure do, but why drink that **** water when you can have good Wisconsin beer?

captchris 05-12-2007 09:30 AM

The night between Indoc. and systems they send you to MKE for the night. Go to Landmark (hotel van will take you) and if you guys are feeling adventerous and want to split a cab.... Safe House in MKE!!! http://www.safe-house.com (wierd place!)

saab2000 05-12-2007 10:04 AM

I'll drink Old Style or Old Mil or Pabst and for god's sake, I spent a year in college in Stevens Point. So yes, I'll drink Point Special and it is available at select watering holes in ATW.

Oh, and yes, I approve of the Leini's Honey Weiss too!!! :D

See the kind of quality people we attract at AWAC???!?!?! Beer swilling cavemen! I feel right at home here. Now if only we could get back home to Wisconsin as a company all would be right with the world again. ;)

BTW, there is finally some movement at ZW. There was just another vacancy for upgrades for about 17 or so just posted yesterday.

Probably not. Depends on how many people defer their upgrade to hold a better schedule. But I am close now. Real close. Probably top 15 or 20 after this. Regardless, I am glad to finally see some movement. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Hiring new pilots, upgrades, doing a bit more flying for US Airways which they asked us to do. It's all good if you ask me.

YOUR happy, trying being on RSV for 15 months. Looks like ill go from PHL RSV to 18-20 up from the bottom of the PHL line holder list overnight. Happy is an understatement for me!:D

flyerfly 05-13-2007 07:07 AM

I love how this tread turned into a drinking conversation. Its true I have partaken in drinking Spotted Cow while in MSN on an overnight and I loved it!!! Also I was at the good old Radisson at MKE a few weeks ago and I wanted an Old Mil! It was the first beer my dad ever shared with me. Kind of like Clark Griswald with Rusty in Family Vacation. I wanted to relive the memory well guess what!?!?!? No Old Milwaukee! What was a guy to do but partake in the other fine selections of beer.

mregan 05-13-2007 09:02 AM

Congrats on getting a class date!!!! I am going to ATL to the job fair this weekend and am really looking forward to meeting with AWAC. They are my top choice and based on my research of the company and from people (including current AWAC pilots) it seems like the best fit for me. I would appreciate Any reccomendations anyone has for me about meeting them at the job fair let me know. I hear that they do take a lot of people they meet at theese fairs if they like the person, how true is that?? I also hear that it is better than jsut sending the m your resume? Thanks in advance for your answers :)

flyerfly 05-13-2007 07:20 PM

Be yourself and show them you like what you do. Be professional and make sure they know it. I just gave them my midwest smile with a kind eye and a firm hand shake they loved it. Oh and I did really well in the sim. I had that going for me too.

mregan 05-14-2007 07:38 AM

Thanks flyerfly! I am doing a lot of brushing up this week on studying as well as geting some sim time. (not full motion, but every bit helps) . Do you work for AWAC??? or interviewed with them? If so, how wasa that like?

Vikz09 05-14-2007 09:25 AM

They will hire you at the job fair. We are hurting just like everyone else for pilots. We have pilots jumping off this ship as soon as they can for other oppurtunities just to leave awac. I have been here for 6 years and this company is only a shadow of its former self. You should ask yourself why a airline who only has 700 pilots has to hire 20 per month... when we are not growing? The reason is people like myself are sick of seeing the company build crappy schedules and run rampent over our personal time off. For example the month of june schedules for captains avg. 12.5 days off with trips that are not commutable. The company is not getting the canidates they want to show up to appelton wisconsin. therefore they are interviewing right on the spot, hoping to get people to comite before they get another interview or a change of heart. If you want to live in domicle its not that bad if you are planning on commuting go to a company that will build pairings that allow you to commute.. good luck.

Vikz09

mregan 05-14-2007 10:03 AM

VikZ09 thanks for the heads up, Ive heard that at these job fairs they grab you right away, I am currently employed by a part 135 carrier, and i live in BOS, I know that they do 2flights per hour frm BOS to PHL and DCA. I am wondering how commutable that is??? I now reserve is almost a year nd that makes it tough, so a craash pad isnt a problem for me. But i am jsut curious also about training and how that is. Thanks

mregan 05-14-2007 10:07 AM

Also, are there other bases for AWAC that they may open up? I heard rumors of possibly CLT or RDU? Any chance of BOS since USAIR has a base here?

BoilerUP 05-14-2007 10:18 AM

Probably not CLT because PSA and Mesa have domiciles there, although it'd be a nice place for commuters. RDU was almost a go but US Airways couldn't guarantee a set number of departures for us every day so now the company "is evaluating all options". The same reason (excuse?) has been used for MKE.

Slim to none. We'd have a LGA domicile well before BOS as much flying as we're set to spool up there and they've put the kabosh on that rumor a bunch of times already.

Vikz09 05-14-2007 10:19 AM

As far as training goes its a good company for training. they will make every effort to get you thru training. many pairings show at 6 am which means the first day off is non commutable. living in boston might make the pill easier to swallow for you. I live in the midwest and for me the company seems to going in reverse. No new oppurtunities for flying and seeing your future with us airways and no one eles is a little scary for me.

mregan 05-14-2007 10:21 AM

Great thanks for the info guys. Hopefully things will go well in ATL this weekend. AWAC seems like it would b a good fit for me, so I appreciate all the info :)

Go to the fair, see what AWAC has to say compared to everyone else there, then make your decision. If you have the total time/atpw and want to stay in BOS---go to BigSky as a street CA. I'm at AWAC and I like it so far.... I don't commute though. Oh well...just my $.02

mregan 05-14-2007 01:38 PM

Captchris, thanks for the info, I ll see what happens afte this weekend, gald you like AWAC so far, where are you based???

Based in ORF.... I was DCA based, and came to ORF in December. Like it so far... but DCA is an AWESOME place to sit RSV!

mregan 05-14-2007 05:40 PM

Good info, good to hear that ORF is a good base. How difficult is it to get DCA right off the bat out of IOE, for reserve?

CRJflyer32 05-14-2007 05:54 PM

They've been cutting back on the number of new hires to get DCA. Most have been going to PHL and ORF. I think most of this last class went to PHL. We were kinda fat on RSV FO's in DCA and I've been with AWAC since Sept and still only have 4 under me there.

mregan 05-14-2007 06:00 PM

are you on reserve still and if so, do you commute or live in base? also, how do you like it so far....sorry for so many questions, but I am going to ATL to th job fair this weekend and I hope to meet /interview w AWAC, I d love to get on w you guys...

If you think we were fat in DCA you should have seen ORF; I think Korean1DR went nearly 60 days without flying the airplane...

I need to bid back to reserve...

I bid normal lines, and 4 RSV lines for June... the 4 RSV lines went Sr. and I ended up with a REL line! Oh well... I'm enjoying my 9th day with no calls right now :)

cbire880 05-14-2007 07:47 PM

So I take it PHL is easy to get. I'd really like PHL for QOL. Free housing and family to help with baby issues is the way to go!

CRJflyer32 05-15-2007 04:52 AM

Yeah Boiler, I know we were fat in ORF, but thats not the whole reason there wasn't much flying from there. It is an out station, and I think the final number was 43 days.

Mregan - I am still on RSV. I am about #10 or so on the RSV list right now, but somehow I managed to grab a relief line for June. I do in fact commute, but I have probably the easiest commute in the world. There are 15 flts a day and it's only a 40 min flt. If you've got any questions, feel free to pm me.
