Just Hired ASA, Few questions.
Hey guys, just got hired over at ASA for a class start date on May 21st. Now Im really kicking myself in the butt for not more questions in the end. First off does anyone know what the training was like at Flight Safety? They say it's like drinking from TWO fire hoses which seems pretty legit but I haven't talked to anyone that has gone through it. Also does anyone know if they pay for your hotel through the training or are you responsible for the costs? And lastly what was the schedule like through out the training? If you haven't relocated and you are living in hotels and haven't had a home cooked meal in a months do they let you set out for a day to get one? I know, I should have asked all these questions at the end of the interview but I was pretty much still in shock.
Thanks for the help!

well congrats on the job.
1. Yes they pay for the hotel during training, but your on your own for food as far as i understand.
2. There will probably be a couple 3 day weekends you will be able to get away with especially during sims and transition courses

Thanks Hendefea! Anyone know about how many days a week you are in training and what the days were like?

When I went through, there were two weeks of Indoc M-F all day. Then a week of performance and two weeks of systems.
After systems, you get into the Cockpit Procedures Trainer and the Sim. If I remember correctly, you go 3 days on, 2 days off roughly.
Cooperate and Graduate!

There were 3 of us there and I think 5 were supposed to show up. One thing that they found that we all had an issue with was our 121 knowledge. This is something they would like you to have a good foundation of before you got to training since the training isn't really designed to teach you regs and 121 instrument procedures and things of that nature.
So first off you go through a quick seminar on the company and it's present position in the industry. Next is a one on one interview with one of the recruiters which are retired pilots so the bull won't work there. Just be yourself. They go through your application and make sure that your background history is legit and specific enough for them to do a required check on you. Then you do a written test which is 30 questions. The questions were pretty easy. Nothing I hadn't seen before. It consisted of instrument questions and a few straight forward 121 questions ranging from performance to approach questions. Also know your approach plates (jeppesen) and low alt enroute charts. We spent a bunch of time on that. He asked a bunch of questions there were pretty open ended. Questions such as "why ASA?" "What is your worst quality?" "What are your intentions at ASA?" and things like that. Then they have you call a number when you go home to see if you were selected for phase II which is a Sim session. That was really fun. There really isn't anything to be prepared for accept to know your regs. Know your holding speeds and have a good scan with glass. Be gentle with the power and the controls. The flight consisted of a take off, climb, 180 degree turns, direct to VOR and hold entry to an ILS and full Stop. Any other questions feel free to ask.
