Some, maybe a lot, of RJ flying wouldn't work at mainline for economic reasons.
But even mainline wouldn't want FO wages less than $80-90... they still need to recruit military pilots who are coming from a solid six-figure income after you account for all allowances, bonuses, etc.
Maybe they could hire on two tracks: entry-level and professional (1000 TPIC, mil or 121). Entry-level would stay on RJ's, upgrade there, get 1000 TPIC and then be released to bid larger equipment. Professional hires might get assigned anything, including RJ's but could bid off as soon as they can hold it and the seatlock is up. But everybody has a number from day one.

IMO if DL brought all the CRJ-700/900s and E175s to mainline and paid them the rates we currently have it would have this effect. for year 2-4 being a RJ CA would give the most $$$. after that is is most $ effective to go to a 737 or a320 as an FO. not sure what UAL/AAL pay scales look like for RJs.
EDIT
I think in a perfect world we would have mainline fly the large RJs at a rate somewhere in between 757/767FO and WB FO (like DLs rate for an E195).

Comparing apples to lawnmowers, my friend.
I fly for the Regionals and the AF, concurrently, and the differences in both the difficulty of the training programs and operational "missions" is night and day... And, yes, the accepted level of risk is much, MUCH higher on the Mil side.
Now, all that being said, I'm definitely not saying Civ flying is EASY, and I thoroughly enjoy both types of flying, for different reasons.

I don't agree and haven't experienced that myself, but that's fine.
To be clear, I'm certainly not saying that military aviators are superior simply because they passed a specific program and are flying a certain mission. I have flown and trained with several guys on the regional side that I am confident would have done very well in UPT, just like I have flown with a few military guys who think they're hot **** for no real reason.
But the inherent disparity in the difficulty of the training programs and the "mission", as I said, cannot be overlooked or overstated.
Anyway... Give us seniority numbers already!

Sure you haven't, you are still young and inexperienced. But you should have seen some of the accident boards I have worked on.

The fact that you think I currently want to, or have ever wanted to, work for your company is precious. While flying to worse destinations for quarter to half the pay in less comfortable jets sounds great, it's simply not for me right now my friend.
