The floodgates are opening at AWAC

A lot of our pilots are leaving. Yesterday I talked to one guy who is starting in June with Midwest. There are at least 2 others in class with him. Some others will soon be leaving for SWA and a few others to Compass.

What are others hearing?

Looks like the long-discussed movement is starting! Maybe we can all move up now!

Everyone I fly with have a class date, are interviewing, or are trying to interview somewhere. Including the old guys (netjets, citation shares, etc.) It has been happening for the last 6 months, 110 pilots lost from October to April. They just chose to shrink the pilot group, hence the 6 months of no movement. My opinion is that things will move pretty quick for a while, but the bad thing is the fact that we were not really proactive in hiring, and we will be short. They are worried about finding enough people to come here. The next months will be interesting to see what happens.

Looks like my predictions were only 3-4 months late! Bring on the upgrades!:D

Hope those canceled Jetblue class rumors aren't true, cuz that'd be 9 captains right there hitting the road not counting the UPS/SWA/Delta/Midwest/etc folks leaving.

What's that smell, its the faint aroma of summer junior manning...

Lets hope all you guys get to move up. I am not looking forward to a year long reserve sit. ;) I heading to sim this afternoon, and am moving to Norfolk area within a month and a half. Hope it is the right move. How are the norfolk reserves doing now days? still sitting as much as winter?

I would bet you wont sit reserve for a year. I have been on RSV for a year, but as of June first I am done. 12 straight bid periods of RSV, but during my time, we did not hire in 6 months, and I could have held a line in ORF and DCA for months, I just missed the boat on that one. If movement continues at this pace, you wont be sitting for long.

I may be hitting this job fair/interview in ATL at the right time then!

Not as much, but still a lot of sitting... I start a line in June and will fly more in June than I have this year so far and by the end of July shoud have probably doubled my time in the airplane. Things are still slow, but are moving in the right direction.

Sounds like its the optimal time to get onboard, just at the start of the wave.

The first upgrades for the entire year will happen in July. There are 8 scheduled. 6 for August, and an additional 17 added onto that. My guess is at least half the 17 will be transfers (historically running about that) so maybe 22 upgrades (8+6+8=22) for July and August.

22 upgrades for the entire year so far isn't a "floodgate" but at least it's something!

Maybe not floodgates, but I know of a half-dozen right off the top of my head who will be leaving (have class dates) very soon. I predict another captain vacancy notice within a month.
