Looking for advice

I am a recently furloughed regional guy. LCA with over 1000 pic. I’ve got some apps out for corporate jobs, but hiring appears to be frozen in the short term. Here is my humbling conundrum. I was offered a chief pilot position at a flight school that pays a considerable amount of money and I would be home every night. How detrimental would it be to my future airline prospects if I was flying GA for a period while the coronavirus crisis lasts? Or should I wait it out at Atlas or as regional FO when that opportunity arises or wait for corporate? I’d appreciate any thoughts!

Take the bird in a hand. Chief Pilot is a fine resume line, you’ll get some good transferable experience, too.

Take a job offer well you have it.

Take the job that is in your hands.

Otherwise it will be someone else’s job in their hands.

Fair enough. That looks like consensus and I appreciate it. Last follow up question, if I was building total time in that position but already had 1000 tpic, previous 121 lca, and the degree, would It be smart to stick it out at the flight school for a period of time for the QOL, or would it be prudent to bail for the first jet job that comes along? With an eye towards the majors when this is all over. Thanks for all the responses

Take the job. Seriously. Who knows, you may love it and never go back.

just my opinion but I would do the "Chief Pilot" job for at least a year, for resume/check the box purposes. chasing shiny airplanes and bouncing around may work against you. like you said, you have 1000 turbine PIC now.

if the "jet job" is a G650 for a Fortune 500 company that is another story. If it is a ratty Lear 35 flying Part 135 for the local FBO, I would pass.

my opinion

I was going say this! Good luck.

I'd venture to say that it'll be awhile before the majors start hiring off the street again. If you already have 1000 PIC you're already set anyway for at least a year. After a year, the majors might want to see some 121 currency.

I do agree with Senecacaptain though, give your new employer a year of your time unless you get a really amazing offer that you think you'll want to stick with for a long time.
