AWAC Where should I live?

I am starting AWAC on May 28th. I was wondering what base will have the most movement and what are the crash pads like. I need to live in poverty for a few months to pay off some bills. What would some of the AWAC guys suggest?

ORF is at a stand still right now. They aren't backfilling any vacancies, which means they are shrinking the base. PHL is cheaper than DCA. That one is hands down. I am in DC and the crashpads are running 225/mo. Anything else, just pm me.

I was paying $170 in PHL for my crash pad. There are a bunch of pads in the Korman Apartments that have access to public transportation and are in the $150-180 range. The area is a little sketchy at night though.
It looks like most of the last new hire class got based in PHL.... of course, bases change from class to class depending on the need.

DCA has some great crashpads, and it is a pretty awesome place to sit RSV. Just my $.02 most of the pads are $225 and located in this building.... http://www.archstoneapartments.com/A.../The_Buchanan/

If you plan to live in base the best hands down to do that in would be ORF IMO, although it really depends on what you like. Virgina Beach/Chesapeake/Newport News/Hampton all have some nice places to live.

I know an FO that was considering buying a boat (around $25k or so) and including slip fees to hook it up to electricity and water he said it would run around $550-$600/month. That was with a 10 year loan running around 9% with 100% financed. He was gonna live in it. It came with a bed, shower, toilet, and full galley (electric stove, microwave, etc.). Here's an example:

Seemed like a good idea. Instead of paying rent you are paying down your mortgage (like a home). In 10 years it won't be worth much but it beats throwing rent money out the window. I'm not sure I could do it long term, one might go insane, but it might be fun for a few months at least.

I know of at least 2 captains down here in ORF that live on their boats... and I have heard a rumor about a guy who sleeps in a van in the employee lot (not sure about that though). I think we are going to have some openings in the crashpad Korean1Dr (APC username) and I live in... $205 a month. The place is fully furnished and on the beach.

I would recommend ORF if you want any sort of social life while sitting around bored on reserve.

The CA living in his VW Van left for Airtran. I've seen an RV parked in there a few times though, normally that's a red flag for "employee lot squatter".

Are you in JW's condo up in Norfolk?

I know reserve is long now. Do you think the strand of hiring their doing will lower the reserve time? I sat reserve with Trans States and it blows! Our crew room has bugs in it. Curious what the contract would say about suitable facility for sitting airport reserve!!!

Should've called the health department and ALPA.
