Resign and then return
Have you all ever heard of a pilot resigning his position due to personal issues and then getting back on with the carrier when issues are resolved?
no, but i've head of people taking personal leave
i've heard of people quitting to go to another airline and then come back..
are airlines pretty receptive of that
what about if a pilot chooses to leave to get further schooling (i.e. masters/law degree)...and then wants to come back after, any difficulty, do you have to go through the whole process again, or do they allow you to slide back in somehow?
Definitely request a Leave of Absence. Several people I know have done this for school and the like. Best is that your hire date just keeps getting older. Presto, instant captain.
I had to cancel an interview and then come back. Does that count?
what office at the airline should a pilot call if they want to get back on?
chief HR |
Call your flight manager.
I thought you already quit...
Like anything else it depends on the airline. I was with a regional had a family emergency was given a leave for X period of time. That time ran out and I chose to resign (probably could have pushed for more time but how much time is too much to expect?) I did not see an end in sight so I left. 5 months later all was well I started sending out applications again and contacted the old company. They skipped right over the Interview and hired me back. I was brought in had all the paperwork to fill out all the background checks done again and given a new class date. (you have to re-do all the training through IOE)
Had to start seniority again but hey in a couple of years it wont matter.....kept the old number though which is good fo those surley old captains who hate "new" guys... be up-front be truthful and ask everyone......theyll work with you I bet! |

But like others said, try to take a LOA, that way you will keep your accumultaed seniority and longevity. You will not accrue any more while you are gone though (unless it is military leave). |
