Comair Hiring Update?
Anyone know how the hiring is at Comair? How long do they plan to hire and how many a month?
|
3 interviews / week
New training class every monday |
Good Afternoon,
Is airlineapps the only way to get your resume in? Anyone have a back door fax, email, etc. Thanks in advance. V/R, Apollo |
I got my interview through Airlineapps. Think they called a week or so after I updated my account to reasonable hours (a.k.a. below mins, but pretty close)

anyone know why hiring is slowing?
|
First, can't get enough new hires to show up, and I believe the mins "were" going to lower but training is costing too much at this time so they are keeping the current mins. In addition, logisticaly there is anticipated nightmare about to happen with the "possible" closure of base/bases so mny pilot are about to be dispalced or asked to bid for new domicile. Once the dust settles, all should stablize and pick up again. Keep in mind that once the claim money is dispersed, there is an anticipated exodus as well, although, not as bad as once thought before. Overall, things are improving, albeit ever so lightly, but nonetheless improving.

Its slowing they said because the people moving from the 50 to the 700 and 900, and that we are getting rid of those 14 50's.......i dont understand, but thats what we were told
|
I think that when everyone leaves after they get their claim money, training will pick right back up
|
Could it be that Comair wont need as many pilots with the larger aircraft?Less legs? or something...
|
No..these low time wonders need more training...overheard one the other day requesting a "full stop" at JFK!!!!!!!! he was quickly(between the laughter) reminded that all landings are "full stop" at JFK!:)

Wow, fresh out of the Cessna, maybe? Man, maybe the next time I call ground I should add "student pilot." I'm sure they would get a kick out of that.

You guys are real rough on the low time new guys.........we are not all idiots
|
These drive me nuts:
1) Comair 1234 IFR to ATL 2) The words "This is" 3) Descend to FL130 |

The Captain didn't find it too funny...! Nobody has any sense of humor anymore!! |
Don't forget these little bug-me-outs:
Comair 1234 Instruments to ATL Slow to 250 "K" (too cool to say Knots, eh?) The long-drawn-out Aaaaaand this is...(with every transmission) |
Not that I really care, but everytime someone says "with you" it has a similar effect with me of someone dragging their fingernails across a chalkboard.
...and I think this thread just got hijacked! |
I'm "with you" on that.

How do you pick up your clearance?
I usually say " Good evening CLT Clearance, FLT-XXX, clearance to Mobile" Or sometimes " FLT-XXX I'd like to pick up my IFR clearance to Mobile" *Only verbose when it is slow. Is there a more proper way? I have never said instruments, however it is an IFR clearance. What is wrong with asking for you IFR clearance? |

So it is the redundant part that annoys you? Just trying to understand what is being said wrong. Most times I don't even listen to my FO when he is getting clearance, I am doing other things. I am just happy when I get an FO that doesn't scare me, screwing up a clearance request doesn't really bother me.

Well the AIM doesn't offer a whole lot of guidance here but from the other side of window having done an ATC minor the callsign is the most important, the fact that you are IFR is very helpful but if you are an airliner it's pretty easy to assume that you are IFR so that goes without saying, and lastly the destination to verify that this is the correct flight plan. So callsign and destination are the important parts and if you are not flying an airliner it will definitly help to add the fact that you are IFR, in other words do I need to find a strip or make one? All you need. Frankly I think it's just a moot point. Who cares?

Comair has a communications lesson in indoc.....It is funny there is audio of two ways of asking for a clearance. Once is this person with a strong southern accent blabbing on and on, and finishing with "yall have a nice day" And the other is the CORRECT way as an airline pilot to request a clearance..... Had a good laugh

the less said the better. "clearance Comair xxx to Detroit with xray". The controller knows you are IFR the second he hears comair.
