Should I leave?

Fair enough. In my opinion going left seat Is just for the money. It depends on the personality too, some FOs would rather take the first upgrade at the worst base on reserve because they can’t handle not being in control. I’ve always got along with everyone. The guy on the left seat might be strange but they do have more experience than you on that plane. If he takes out a hoagie in front of the FAA, more power to him . This mentality makes for a much smoother and less stressful 4 day.
At least when stuff hits the fan, if I don’t handle a situation well or become weird. I have myself to blame and I can control that.......
Its not about wanting to control everything..... Actually those type of folks are the worst to fly with. I tried to empower my crew members to be actively be there involved in the decision making process. I enjoyed my time a CA more so than as a FO.
The whole upgrade early as possible to the worst base/plane was just taking advantage of the opportunity so that I can out from the regional game. So far, it has worked for me.

Not sure if anyone gives a crap but I'd figure I'd give an update since people were kind enough to give some advice and provide some much needed comedy. Its been pretty much a year and things sure changed quickly. My job is doing well. They have offered me a raise and possibly a promotion if things open up. I've decided to turn them down and go back to flying planes. I really miss it. Everything about it, flying jets, non conventional schedule, traveling to different places even if it's just to airports and hotels.
So I've contacted my company and they say they can get me into class in October. They asked if I wanted to upgrade but I told them not right away. I've been out of flying for a year and really need to get back in the right seat and get comfortable again before I try and be the captain. I figure 3-4 months of flying the line and I'll be ready for it.
Hopefully this time things don't come down to a grinding halt and we all get kicked in the privates. But who knows. Gonna give it another try and see what happens.
I hope the past year has treated people as good as can be. Not looking forward to going back to the hot box. But looking forward to hitting the line again.

I had a CJO in my pocket and decided to drop to part time instructing since I was at ATP mins. Landed a good office gig and a pretty big promotion headed my way. I still wouldn't make as much as I would as a regional captain, but I was home every night. Needless to say, I start training end of September and I'm looking forward to it. With the times ahead in the industry, I figured now is the time if I'm going to gain seniority quickly. As long as the world doesn't stop again, should be some interesting years ahead.

Glad to see you're getting back in it and thanks for the update.

So I've been fortunate enough to get offer a job with NetJets. I originally applied to them back in 2019 but their minimums were too high then so I got the TBNT. I happened to reapply again and got invited to their hiring expo and was lucky enough to have been offered a position. I feel fortunate to have spent the past year getting recharged and making a decent living. I'm excited not to have to go back to the regionals and get an opportunity to work at NetJets. Man this aviation career is quite the roller coaster. For anyone that has questions about NetJets hiring expo feel free to ask. I provide as much information as I know.

Hello all.
Relatively new regional FO here, pondering career directions. What else, right? Haha.
My career goal is FedEx or UPS. Should I stay at the regional? I’m not in upgrade ASAP mode (at least right now). Or, try to get hired with a good cargo company soon and then try to get hired by FedEx or UPS?
Thanks

There are some things that will always be in demand. If you have a college degree, and have TPIC, you will always beat out someone that doesn't have it. Add a couple good type ratings to that, and you will be all set.
Leave, stay...whatever. Just fly as much as you can right now. You are potentially towards the back end of the biggest hiring wave in a lifetime. Do your best to try to move yourself more toward the front. Jumping airlines means less hours flown, and that is what you really need to move on quickly.

TPIC is going to be key. It seems getting on with someone like Atlas/Kalitta might help as FedEx/UPS seem to be hiring from there quite a bit right now. They key really, though, is going to be to fly as much as you can right now and try to get into the left seat. There are lots and lots of regional pilots getting hired by FedEx right now.

Pay close attention to October 18th, it’s a very important date for anyone who can’t afford to take a hit on rising interest rates. Hey I wonder if these airlines “projecting” big hiring numbers would be hurt by that?
