the ATR is the only aircraft here? Also, do you need a car over there or is there good public trans? And, how long is the reserve?
It's been awhile since I was in SJU, but here's what I remember: Only ATRs in SJU You don't have to have a car, although it would be nice to get away from the airport and see some of the island. The bus is cheap (25 cents when I was there), but not very dependable for a schedule. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are not in a hurry, it works great. Not sure about the reserve time now. Things have changed since I was there. |
the most frequent destination is tortola a whole 3800 foot long runway, so the atr is the only thing that can get in and out of there. Because we go to this island and others that are shorter (shortest is less than 3500 usable), we only have atr's. I waited one day two hours for a bus and it never came. Cabs are a rip 10 bucks each way if your a pilot. There are plenty of quality beaters available and theres a captain who has a body shop that can "help" your car pass inspection. I was on reserve for 2 months and i now have a line. The most recent group of guys that got down here got a composite line this month (less than 25% reserve days) so you wont be reserve long.

Do you still fly to Canouan? How about Anguilla? Just curious as it's been a while for me. |

ok im sorry beef is now a whole 3900 usable. even with limited speeds it doesnt seem that long when you call v1. Anguilla still has the hill in it and is a hell of a place to land at in the dark. they are lenghtening canouan but it is still 3400 feet. They are blowing up that hill on 1/2 mile final and putting it into the ocean to make the runway longer and maybe even get an approach on it. Nevis has been lengthend too but its still really short with no approaches. The day vfr only airports give the only decent overnights though.

Yeah, those were some fun times flying the Caribbean. Enjoy it while you can. You will probably never do any flying like it anywhere. Good times!
