RAF pilots had beards.

I have always heard if it is fully inside the inside of the sealing surfaces, it is okay. If it interferes with the sealing surfaces in a substantial way (big bushy beard) then that should not be allowed.

Of all the things to fuss about right now...

Over pressure fed oxygen masks work fine with beards.

I dont think anyone is fussing about it, but it is a fun distraction right now and something that none of us are passionate about either way. Just a fun conversation, which honestly is exactly what we all need right now. If we can just keep Thekooj out of the conversation it will be a complete success.

If you want beards. Outline specifics n wait for the airline to need something. Stick in the TA , just like the politician.

They were clearly in trouble then if they needed to use that as a recruiting tool.

Actually the mil analyzed that because of all the SOF guys who need facial hair to blend in at various foriegn locations.

They found that oxygen saturated beads are EXTREMELY flammable (explosive actually), and will pretty much burn your face right off. But that's OK for SOF, because they use O2 during insertion/extraction transport, not when they're actually in combat. If there's a fire on an aircraft the crew, not the pax, will fight it.

You can accept the risk that an O2-saturated beard could be a problem during fire-fighting (we don't do that very often) but you can't pretend it's not a risk.


Not a chance. It's already very well-established law that employers can set grooming standards... future lawsuits would only trigger the existing precedent (and waste money). The only thing you *might* see is legislation (which WOULD over-turn established legal precedent) preventing employers from banning some traditionally ethnic or religious grooming fashions (ex, dreads, cornrows). That's already happening in some places.

But unless some legislation just straight up bans ALL employer-defined grooming standards, or specifically authorizes beards for white guys, it won't help most pilots.

I read the first few posts and jumped down to comment. So pardon me if it’s been said but holy sheet the M&H uniform is absolute garbage. I just pulled my sweater and coat out and can’t believe I actually have to wear this.

And I personally know of an Air Force WSO who had his lip burned (fortunately not badly) when some Brit mustache Wax his girlfriend got him started to spontaneously combust while on 100% O2 in an altitude chamber once. And that was with the trifling little Hitler-like mustaches allowed by the USAF regs.

I prefer M&H pants and blazer but the ACA shirts are 10x better

Add somebody else to that list. Love ACAs shirts, the pants were a disappointment.

Anyone try their blazer and pants? I’m looking to see if they’re any better than Crew Outfitters. I already have the shirts which I can’t already recommend enough.

I’ve bought jet seam pants and shirts pretty good wayyyyyy better than crew outfitters.

At least for my airline the ACA blazer has stripes that are too thin and only go halfway around the cuff and the pants are about as comfortable as M&H but fell apart in half the time for me.

By "their" do you mean A Cut Above? Yes I wear their pants and blazer. Their pants are much much better than Crew Outfitters. They fit much better and don't look like baggy parachute pants. They also do not itch.

I'm also in need of getting some new pants. It's nice that so many people are making comments of the varying pants. Sure would be nice if I could tell which company/pants each of you are referring to.
