Lame

I just want everyone to know that it's totally lame when aviationinterviews.com goes down the night before your interview.

Good thing I've religiously memorized the gouges from the past few months. I just wish I had printed them.

Lame.

shanejj 05-29-2007 08:02 PM

that does suck

duvie 05-29-2007 08:29 PM

don't worry about gouges bud. If you're studied up and have a well-rounded knowledge base you'll be fine for the technical sections. As for the HR stuff, no gouge can help you there.

SharkAir 05-29-2007 08:31 PM

I know. I'm not terribly worried about it. If I were, I probably wouldn't be wasting time on forums right now. It's just the principle of the thing.

planecrazyjenn 05-29-2007 08:43 PM

Good luck! Where are you interviewing if I may ask?

ExpressJet.

Bizarre coincidence, the XJT pilots crack pipe/pilot forum is giving some attitude itself.

Good luck on the interview.

Good luck on the interview.

They are owned by the same guy and on the same server. But like it has been said, he should already be ready to go. Nice to go over last minute stuff but I'm sure he'll be fine.

ShyGuy 05-30-2007 12:34 PM

I'm surprised that no one has said this yet, but I guess I will.

You shouldn't be looking at gouge "the last minute" the night before the interview anyway.

Like you said, study it well before hand, know your regs, ATP stuff, technical questions, approach briefing, etc.

No need to get yourself worried the night before the interview (as you ended up doing to yourself). The night before the interview, chill. Try to relax, and sleep early. You already know the stuff.

ToiletDuck 05-30-2007 12:34 PM

Actually not one thing on all those gouges helped me for my interview. The IFR oral study guide and systems will do the trick.

Yeah, thanks, I sort of knew that. I'm glad you were able to pick up on my underlying sarcasm with the "bizarre coincidence" statement.

ShyGuy 05-30-2007 12:36 PM

HOLY COW!

An APC record!

THREE different posts by THREE different people all on the same minute!

(myself, toiletduck, dojetdriver, at 4:34pm)

That's how I roll.... Omnipresent

SharkAir 05-30-2007 10:38 PM

Nope. Wasn't fine. Failed miserably. But at least I got First Class on the way home. The free drinks were nice. I'm going to bed.

Well a lot of people don't know that. Sarcasm is not easily picked up on a pure text post. Since the guy that owns them is a friend of mine I figured I would let those that don't know it in on the secret.

No offense, but last-second cramming the night before won't have done much good. The key is to study good and well before hand. The fact you say "failed miserably" makes me think that even if you had access to the aviationinterviews.com gouge, the night before the interview, it still wouldn't have helped.

Anyway, ya live and learn, good luck in future interviews. You'll do fine. Just study hard beforehand, and the night before, try and relax, get some good sleep instead of cramming.

:)

Actually, I don't think I failed miserably, I just failed for some reason. I thought the non-HR portions went pretty well actually. No surprises, no really tough questions. I thought I nailed it.

In the HR portion, though, I asked a lot of questions which may have indicated to them that I wasn't exactly looking forward to being relocated. So maybe they didn't like that. I've also heard rumors that they prefer low-time pilots, and I exceed all of their minimums by at least a factor of 4. I think whatever did me in was in the HR room.

What's most upsetting is not that I didn't get the job, but the HR lady, upon polite questioning, absolutely refused to tell me why she decided not to hire me. How is anyone supposed to improve for next time?

cbire880 05-31-2007 07:49 AM

That's all about CYA. If they tell you, it gives you ammo to sue them. That's pretty standard throughout the entire economy.

You mean industry right...

Nope, I mean everywhere I've applied to in and out of the aviation industry. Engineering jobs are the same way. You might find exceptions in small operations. Generally, if they have an HR organization, they won't tell you for fear of being sued. Maybe that was the wrong word, but its not just jobs flying airplanes that won't tell you.

flyerNy 05-31-2007 07:39 PM

I agree. Nobody anywhere really tells you what went wrong, in and out of aviation.

That's usually standard op... the interviewer will never tell you why you didn't get hired. I hope you didn't push it on her! That's a huge no-no.

SharkAir 05-31-2007 08:22 PM

No, just thought I'd ask.
