Something to consider. Physics. Your airspeed was probably 140 knots or so. With a direct crosswind you still have some headwind across the wing and some crosswind. This is true at any wind speed. So the faster approach speed might mitigate the crosswind to some degree.

Did you use flaps 45? We have no procedure giving us the latitude to try it but I wonder if a flaps 20 landing would give more control?

I don't recall, was just playing around in the sim. The crab was close to 90 degrees, looked like I was landing perpendicular to CL. I probably could have kicked it out INTO the wind and landed perpendicular and stopped before the edge lights.

You're right that the sim probably doesn't faithfully replicate that, so more of a video game than anything else.
