Pinnacle new hire question
 

Hey guys,

Pinnacle is raising the new hire pay to $400/wk (~ $1600/month) for training effective June 1st, so how exactly is this money paid out?

On a different forum, I read in one post that the money is paid twice per month and that it is taxed.

But in another post, I read that it is actually paid weekly, and that check is a per diem check, so there is no tax... as in, you get a check for $400, and you cash all 400 bucks. This implies you get to keep all $400 per week (no taxes).

Anyone gone through Pinnacle training able to shed some light on this?

Only recently did Pinnacle raise the new hire pay... so even if when you went through when it used to be 300/week or 200/week, how was that money paid to you?

You'll get a check for the whole amount each Friday. Whether or not you report the income next spring is between you and your conscience. And your possible auditor... :-)

They will have you fill out a W-9 during the first week. They will send you a 1099-Misc Form at the first of the year. Since you will be paid more than $600 you are required to report it to the IRS.

Ok, so to see if I understand this right, every Friday you get a check for $400. No taxes taken from this check, it's just straight up $400 bucks.

Then, when it comes to file taxes, you must declare it as misc. income (1099-Misc Form), and THEN, it gets taxed?

A friend of mine told me he had one week of indoc, two weeks of systems (or maybe three weeks, I forget), about a week for FTD and sim prep, then sim sessions. He said it took 8 weeks to get through.

Does that sound about right for you?

How long in MEM do you think you'll end up being for the new hire training, before being released to a base for IOE?

Yes, I'm currently in training at 9E. It's going well so far and I'm looking forward to finishing up with school and going flying. I completed the ground school portion of training yesterday. We had three written tests (memory items, limitations, and systems) and everyone received their schedules for the next month.

Ground school consisted of two weeks of Indoc and two weeks of systems. Next week (at least on my schedule; everyone's is different) will consist of three CPT sessions and my oral exam. Then I get a week off, followed by two weeks of sim sessions, a checkride, and a LOFT. Then the FAM rides and OE will be scheduled. About nine weeks (in my case) from start of Indoc to LOFT.

We received our base assignments yesterday, as well. Everyone in my class (15 people) got what they wanted. I'll be in MEM, as it's the shortest commute from my home in MCO. I was told to expect less than two months on reserve. If I can get as much flying as I hope (90+ hrs./mo.), I should upgrade late summer or early fall next year. So, I won't have to put up with the low wages for too long. :)

We were told the same thing, about 2 months. I could have held a line after 2 months, but they kept sending TDYs up to DTW. You probably won't get much over 70 hours on reserve. I had a buddy who got 6 hours over a period of I think 2 weeks in MEM. I sat on reserve for 4 months in DTW and I believe we traditionally have the most reserve flying. The most I got over 4 months was 71 hours, the least was 45. How much total time do you have, 9E has changed the upgrade times and I don't know if they have told you guys at the CEC yet. I am sure that they have though. 9E has this new pilot mentor program they are trying to start so that they can upgrade more fos to capt. We are really short on capts

How long ago was your reserve experience? We were given the 2 month figure by a Memphis captain (initials C.H.) this past Monday, who also said that 90+ hrs./mo. would be easy to do. Do you think he was being optimistic? I'll do anything I can to get additional flight time. Picking up open time, asking scheduling to call me first, etc. Anything else you could suggest toward those ends would be greatly appreciated. I've got about 1100TT at the moment.

reserve will be about 2 months in memphis (looking at the bid packs and awards i think there are only 14 people on reserve in mem!! :eek: )

90 plus is easy. i have had 93 and 94 hour lines all year. and right now fo pick up is paid at 150 percent so i am sure there will be plenty to do when you get on the line.

Sounds good to me. I can't wait to get through the next month and get flying again! :)

Ken, hey that makes 2 Kens around here- reserve will be 2-3 months, then buildups (which are actually nice) and then real lines. I flew 97 hours in May, and have 98 hours for June- line was 94 and I helped out a guy and picked up a day for him. You can bank on 100 hours of credit (pay) and 95 hours (at least) if you want to fly. The 150% is available- some say its helping the company- its up to you. I get enough flying with what I am awarded and while 150% is tempting, I enjoy some golf and time with the lady. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I never broke guarantee FWIW on rsv and if I can give you just one bit of advice its this- READ THE CONTRACT- its not the best contract but there is alot of stuff that can't be done legally that they will try to do. O- and NEVER answer your phone if you are not on duty or on reserve. They WILL leave a voicemail, if you are interested in what they have call back- otherwise its a JM call and those are never good. They can't/won't do anything if you don't answer. Did I mention not answering the phone?
