Comair Closes GSO and MCO Bases

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comair To Close MCO, GSO Crew Bases

After careful review and analysis of how best to align Comair's crew bases to support our current route structure, Comair has made the tough decision to close our Orlando (MCO) and Greensboro (GSO) crew bases.

"At this time, we anticipate the closures will begin no earlier than September 2007 and will officially close no later than December 2007," said Dave Soaper, Senior Vice President of Aircraft Operations, in a memo to all crewmembers.

Base Closing

Oh well. Looks like I'll be commuting for a while longer.

Speedbird172 05-31-2007 06:18 AM

Any word of any new bases opening?

RiddleEagle18 05-31-2007 06:22 AM

Nothing on BOS. Most expected BOS would open at the same time that these closed but in the Q and A they even implied no new bases would be open.

saxman66 05-31-2007 06:43 AM

Yeah I'm kinda surprised they won't open BOS. Half our flights go into there.

PistolP 05-31-2007 01:32 PM

Didn't a similar thing happen with DCA? Rumors started to float around that DCA was going to be a domicile. Then...flights got cut and it never happened.

Timmay 05-31-2007 02:59 PM

Bummer, I know a couple guys that hired on in the last couple months and were really looking forward to being based out of GSO.

Pantera 05-31-2007 05:29 PM

With no new base openings and sending more flying to JFK it make you wonder just how more screwed up JFK will be. The ramp can't handle the amount of aircraft there now. When it takes an hour and three requests to get a release something is broken somewhere.

Funny how every time you ask for commissary or the lav truck they seem to always be broken. What they need to do is copy the operation at CVG and send it to JFK before they send more flying there.

I dont think Delta takes the JFK operations serious.. I had this experience the other day, we called for lav service and commisary and I need the Correct Release.. well lets see after about 30 min after departure and Loading the passangers without the FA saying she was ready we were still waiting for the release.. 15 min past pushback and paper work finally came when I called the out time Ops asked " Comair ### reason for your delay.." I almost fell out my seat,.. I said you are kidding me right.. ok where do we start,, No Lav service , Paper work 15min past departure time where do you want me to stop ok unmotivated ramp workers.. I dont get excited anymore I just do My Job Delta will Figure it out eventully .. OK I finish my rant

Just don't leave then. Go in and grab a bite to eat, read the paper, go back to the hotel, talk to some friends. If enough people act this way, I'm sure the PASSENGER BILL of RIGHTS will start to take hold in Congress (causing the Airlines to scurry to circumvent regulation) and something will get done.

Blkflyer 05-31-2007 08:23 PM

Ellen come on now you know its not that easy, Besides we still have a JOB to do that we were Hired for and getting paid to do,, the JFK ops is can you say chaotic, but controlled, Delta knows how many gates are there and they know out perfomance is impacted by the lack of gates and support on the ground, Like I said eventully they will figure it out

Oh you have no idea. LOL. I loved it (sarcastically of course) when I worked in the trailer park in CVG. We got numerous complaint letters forwarded to us from Delta. Apparently customers would write letters of complaint and Delta would see that these were against Comair flights and send them to us. We would read them and find they were appraisals of Comair crews but HORROR Stories against DELTA agents! Of course we would bring that issue up but I don't even know what Delta's response was. Some really caring folks over there. I know it's a pain but the CCLs do, do some good.

Holy thread revival. You do realize that this post is 15 years old, and Comair is long gone (RIP)

Doesn't make it less of a bummer.

Air Stang 7 11-28-2022 08:26 AM

I wouldn't trust going to Comair anyway. I hear they're in a financial tough spot. Definitely put Expressjet or ASA at the top of your list.

GogglesPisano 11-28-2022 09:38 AM

I would recommend the Delta Connection Academy. It's a "seniority investment."

"Being owned by Delta means everything."

ZippyNH 11-28-2022 03:27 PM

Maybe you should try TWA or PanAm.... maybe People's Express....think they are all short staffed.🤔😂

at6d 11-28-2022 11:53 PM

Does this mean I get my strike money back from ALPA?

Comair pay-for-training scam in the 90s vs regionals now paying tens of thousands for people to join. What a difference 30 years makes.

Comair, ASA, COEX (Expressjet), Express Airlines Northwest Airlink (Pinnacle), ACA, all gone now, ironic.
