Air Midwest closing 5 domiciles

Although most of you don't care about the little old t-prop airlines, I figured I would post this thread for any of those ppl that might. The company posted a bid today to close CHS on 7/1/07 as well as HOB. Then in the next 90 days we are trying to close AHN, CDC, & VIS. I was also told that we might be halting service to FMN which is the largest domicile here right now. This would likely reduce many crews at this domicile as well. I doubt they will actually close it however since it is also a mx base. The previous 5 domiciles have about 30 crewmembers currently working in them.
I don't really know what this all means but I think Air Midwest's days might be numbered. Mesa has succesfully slaughtered one of the former great regionals.

All the best for the future, was always glad to find great crews at the next job. Sorry to say good bye to other great crews. At least the hiring environment gives you options.

Actually they don't have to worry about jobs! The reason I think JO is shuttering AMW is so that he can xfer the pilots over to mesa to fly the jet...in hopes of keeping his codeshares staffed for another month or two!

I have to admit I though JO was toast in June...I didn't see any way he would be able to staff YV. It didn't occur to me that he would liquidate AMW and re-use the pilots! Just goes to show you never know what stunt that guy is going to pull next.

The AMW pilots are already on the mesa list, so they just have to be trainined on an RJ.

mccube5 06-05-2007 08:07 AM

where are all those planes going once the company is liquidated?

N2rotation 06-05-2007 08:49 AM

It's good to see pilots moving on to better companies. This way JO and his cronies are even more starved for pilots.

The writing is on the wall for Mesa Air Group... and instead of fixing the contract, management will just run it into the ground, or China. Some corporate cultures just don't believe in employee dignity.

Gulfstream bought it

I don't think the whole certificate is sold...but I am sure they will drop a couple aircraft. We lose 2 domiciles at the end of this month so I expect those first two aircraft to disappear in early July.

VIS was a domicile??? It's a cool town, but FAT is less than 45 minutes away, they dont really need air service...

Yeah, VIS won't be closing for a little bit longer....they said maybe 90 days. Another carrier has to agree to take over since Air Midwest is under contract to the DOT.
On a side note, our attrition has become so bad that today they announced they will actually be running a new hire class....even with all these closures they can't staff the planes. They say 10 ppl starting in about 2 weeks.

Way out of touch with this side of the business these days, but was wondering what domiciles Air Midwest will have left after these closures.

mesa web site

Any new news about the 1900's?
Will FMN no longer have air service or was I reading the other posts wrong? Does Lakes still go there? If they don't...it will be interesting to see what the MAPD does to have "current" CRJ pilots teach the CRJ stuff  . Don't think to many would be willing to drive.

I could be wrong but I would think that Gulfstream is getting already leased aircraft then. We won't have that many extra airplanes from what news there is now. They posted the CHS closure today flushing those pilots into the rest of the system. We are suppose to close HOB by the end of the month but I don't think that Pacific Wings will be ready to take over by then.
Also the CDC pilots have all been TDY'd now to VIS...I have no idea why the company did that since they are supposedly closing that domicile soon. Keep on guessing:rolleyes:
