I mean, that’s an operator issue, not a CRJ issue. I’d wager 99.5% of the time I’ve had a functional APU.

You're correct... when it's not MELed. They seem to break a lot on the 145 in the summer months when you need it the most.

Depends on the operator. I had some but not a ton of broken APU’s in my 12yrs on the E145

Well then the operator shot themselves in the foot saving a few bucks. The 50 seaters already have a bad reputation for their comfort (or lack of) and now you want to make them suffer more by not circulating fresh cool clean air before engine start? Well, you reap what you sow. Don't be surprised when people want to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Default Fifty seaters are Great

If 49 of the seats are unoccupied!

I'll second this. Had more than a few APUs blow the intake ducting off a pack. A few times it even sounded like a shotgun going off.

Yeah bleed tubing makes a loud noise when it fails, ask me how I know.

Was on the "modern marvel" GoJet's CRJ 550 the other day and everybody was dying in the back until we got up in the air. I counted about 100 times where I saw somebody's hand go up to the gaspers checking to see if they were closed or something. Some people did it multiple times. Again, if you have an APU that can "shoot you to the moon" well then use it. And if you don't then you can't complain when people say they hate flying in your small aircraft.

Some people are going to complain no matter what. A lot of these airports used to have Beech 1900’s, Saab’s, Dashes or other various propeller airplanes.
Now they want something akin to an A220 with no one sitting within 10 feet of them. They want multiple flight options. And they want it fo $50.

Honestly the DOT should regulate maximum cabin temps. Or some kind of maximum temperature for the APU MEL. I have seen older people in seriously bad shape getting off of CRJ’s with no APU in the summer. Airlines will never do it on their own; at least regionals won’t.
