SkyWest LAX/SAN Base

Does SkyWest have an LAX CRJ Base? If so, is it senior/junior?

Also how senior is the SAN EMB Base?

chitownpilot 06-08-2007 04:53 AM

SkyWest does have an LAX "reserve" base.....no lines out there really, everyone is on reserve. Very small domicile. Based on that, I would say it would be rather junior, but I could be wrong. SAN on the other hand, is very senior from what I'm told.

doug_or 06-08-2007 06:49 AM

No RJs out of SAN, all EMB. The junior FO in LAX could hold MKE or ORD CRJ captain, the junior fo in SAN could hold CA in FAT or PSP.

Anyone: Another Eagle guy told me that if you make it through Eagles training program, that SkyWest just offers you a classdate with no interview because you made it through Eagles training. It sounds like BS to that but is there any truth to it? Thanks.

JoeyMeatballs 06-08-2007 08:39 AM

Expressjet does :), forget it I thought by SAN you meant San Antonio, I think you mean San Diego.

duvie 06-08-2007 11:51 AM

We had two eagle pilots in my CRJ class and they both interviewed like everybody else. I also have a friend you had been in the ERJ at eagle for 3 years and didn't pass the SKW interview.

No truth at all. If you are an ASA pilot you don't have to do the sim, that's the only exception. But there are plenty of ex-eagle people at SKW, so they seem to like them just fine (some of them had 5-6 years at eagle).

EMB CA in FAT/PSP is real junior, so SAN EMB FO is not that senior...

just curious...do you happen to know why these guys are ex-eagle people? Are conditions better at SKW? why would anyone give up 5-6 years senority to go to another regional?

Because they were looking at ANOTHER 5-6 years to upgrade.

At least one lived in SLC.

saw a friend of mine from college at slc for ground school. asked him why he came from eagle to skw. upgrade time was his answer.

Hayduke 06-08-2007 07:52 PM

Upgrade time was not the only reason I switched from Eagle to Skywest. I actually make more on 19.25/hr here than I did at 23.something at eagle due to better work rules. You're generally treated much better at SKW, and it's got way more base options and better potential to move around the country.

There was a guy in my class at SKW who had been at Eagle for 6 years. He was awarded EMB CA after 10 months at Skywest.

Corporate Dude 06-09-2007 10:09 AM

So as a new CRJ new hire at SkyWest, would LAX be an option?

I wonder how many guys at Skywest were happy with that decision..............unless of course it was in seniority order :)

You need 2500 to upgrade at SKW so there are a lot of guys upgrading "out of order" because the guys ahead of them don't have the TT. There are a few 8 month Bro upgrades to guys that have come in with the required TT to upgrade

Would say 99.9%, not a chance. MKE, ATL, and maybe ORD would probably be the only chances. Maybe FAT.

Obviously it was seniority order, except for the flight instructors who don't have the experience to be a CA. Also the vast majority of CFI's who hire into the bro chose transition over to jet FO instead of upgrading in the brasilia...not sure why, QOL or SJS or both?

ExperimentalAB 06-09-2007 12:00 PM

As a new-hire, be fully-prepared to hit MKE hard after training LoL...Looks like all new FO's are going to need to put in their time there until enough decide to stay put and not bid-out ASAP!

Yes.......there are two CRJ FO's based at LAX.

Not true.......the EMB FO's at LAX are mostly new and can't hold captain anywhere. There are two CRJ FO's who could be captains other places.
